What a huge difference from Mike and Mike days.

I used to listen to that on the way to work. I really enjoyed it. The replacement show, golic and wingo is terrible. Sound effects, silly noises, terrible "book it" skits. I guess they're trying to catch the attention of ADD riddled teenagers, but I got sick of it.

I normally listen to Fox Sports on the way to work, Clay Travis. I did listen to ESPN the other morning and it was 95% politics. What a huge difference from Mike and Mike days.
I miss watching sportscenter. Used to just be highlights, and you’d make sure you saw the top 10 plays. Now it’s just terrible.

Golic and Wingo have been cancelled for a couple of weeks now.

Really? Didn't even know (obviously). Wonder if its ratings suffered long term or if it was a corona thing.

It would be nice if someone pointed out how well Mike and Mike did for years when they look for a replacement.

There isn’t really anything for ESPN to show when sports are not on. They used to be able to run sportscenter for 8-10 hours out of the day - but that show became irrelevant with the Internet. You used to have to watch to see highlights, not you’ve got them at your fingertips 24/7 and can go through an entire days worth in 10-15 minutes.

So they’ve searched and searched for content, but there’s really only so much you can say about sports - at least the current contests.

Their original stuff like 30 for 30 is fantastic. I feel like they should do more in depth reporting (not day to day). For example, imagine if they did a whole show that broke down the finances of NFL teams. Where the money comes in, goes out, etc. Then the average NFL fan could have a greater understanding about reports of negotiating a new CBA. I feel like more of a Discovery Channel of sports would be better than just having new shows where people give opinions about sports and rotating in some more losers when that show fails.

What is ESPN doing these days? What a dumb business model.

I'm glad you posted that. I used to enjoy watching shows like First Take, Around The Horn and Pardon the Interruption on ESPN, as well as Skip and Shannon on FS1. I haven't watched either of those channels for months, but was going to give them another shot now that football season is approaching. I figured it would be the same intellectual fog that liberals call being woke, but I was going to at least try. You saved me the time by posting the footage of the hubris filled trash that is Max Kellerman.

I think they are going into that direction at least with the on-the-field side. Many of those shows like Detail and team related reality shows are on ESPN+. If you have it, check out Boardroom. That may give you more of what you are looking for. That show deals with the business interests of one player, Kevin Durant.

I honestly have not watched more than a total of an hour of ESPN since this all started in March. Honestly I haven’t missed it and couldn’t even tel you who is winning at any sports being played right now. I have rediscovered my love for reading books again and enjoying it a lot more. Everything I hear about concerning RSPN comes from this forum.

I’ve heard it was mostly because of Trey Wingo, but the reports vary. Some say he didn’t want to do radio anymore, and others say his contract won’t be renewed by ESPN. I think COVID helped Golic Sr. retire. They had been grooming Jr. for a while, who I just can’t take for very long.

I find myself not watching a lot of things I grew up idolizing. ESPN, MTV, NBA, NFL. The news was a staple in my house growing up.
I never watch the news anymore. ANY of them. I haven't watched ESPN since the Jordan doc was on. And i watched it on demand.

I take it back, my bro-in-law has it on constantly and we were at the beach with them a couple weekends. He even had those video game races on.

This is nothing new, people mix sports and politics together all the time. People cry about politics on this sports board everyday. This is the world of sports in 2020. Republicans and Democrats can't go a day without spouting political bullshit.

ESPN was once a must have on my cable package. They used to be must-see TV for SportsCenter and the other highlight shows. Over the last 5 years or so, I hardly watch for highlights or anything. Twitter does a better job than ESPN ever did at recapping and highlighting sports achievements, and I can avoid most of the politics that ESPN loves to push now. I hardly ever watch it.

The best programming ESPN had during this time was the Eagles concert from 2018.The SEC season could save them, even long term,as the 10 game SEC schedule will draw huge ratings.

Few entities do real reporting like that you are describing. Journalism as we used to know it is dead. Such reporting requires a truly open mind. There are none on the journalistic horizon.

I`m very proud to be a Deplorable - much better than being an anarchist, socialist, looters, Antifa, out and out criminal, Marxist, whatever you want to call the Dems. Doc Rivers should be ashamed - someone should ask him how many of the rioters/looters/violent anarchists are going to vote for Trump - 99.9 % will be voting for good ol` Joe Biden because they will know he will be soft on law and order.
