CH is not RT's "buddy." CH approached RT several years back about working for him in Cola.. He was hired as "coach in waiting."Originally posted by barefootharry:
I was there... it was a lot more than 500 at the beginning but not many at the end. The performance of the team was pathetic. Time for Tanner to earn his money. I don't see how he can stomach seeing the program he built dismantled like this even though he'll have to fire his buddy. He will probably give him another year but I think that is a mistake. Amazing to me how Tim Corbin convinces all these MLB caliber pitchers to come play at Vandy. He's always been a great recruiter.... when he and then Sullivan left Clemson they (Clemson) really took a nose dive and have not been able to recover. I just don't have in confidence in our current staff to turn things around. We don't have the pitching, hitting, or fielding to win against hardly anybody. I've never seen our baseball program like this and I've been watching them a long time.
Get out of here with this bull5hit. Make your argument, if you will, but leave this crap out. You go to games...big deal, want a cookie? You have no idea what kind of fans are out there.Originally posted by JasonScottinSC:

Unfortunately it's not that easy to find people who want to go for the very reasons you state above. Folks want to go see a winner. Also, a lot easier to get rid of tickets for a weekend game than midweek for a myriad of reasons.Originally posted by JasonScottinSC:
In fairness, the weather was crappy... but to be honest, just goes to show that our fans are like everyone elses. We love a winner... and when things get tough, we stay away and moan that we're not going to pay to watch the team lose. I was there last night and at the PC game too. There were probably more PC fans at that game than SC fans. Pathetic. I understand people want to win and watch your team play well, but you have to support your team through thick and thin. Doesn't help recruiting to have this magnificent stadium and nobody in it because some fans only want to attend games when they are positive the home team will win. I don't understand the season ticket holders who stay away. Give the tickets away if you're not going to use them.
So much for the home field advantage. I do believe there is something to playing in front of the home crowd. It seems to make a difference in my opinion.
I want the team to play well and win, but it's still baseball. At least for me, it's entertainment, win or lose and great fun to take the family, let the kids play, eat a hot dog and root for the home team (as the song goes). Too bad we've gotten to the point where it's all about the wins and nothing else.
I'll be there tonight and Saturday too. Hope the real fans will show up and get behind the 19-20 year old kids wearing the garnet and black.
Go Gamecocks!
Excellent point there Jack. I remember those discussions well. I believe a main part of the argument against was poor attendance at midweek and OOC weekend games.Originally posted by Jack_Burton:
And to think, in the last few years there have been posts on top of posts about expanding the baseball stadium. Myself and a few other dissenters have always said, "Well, let's wait and see what happens if we have a down year." Now we have our answer. You could have fit last night's crowd in most high school stadiums around the state, and that's not an exaggeration.
When the team is sucking wind, fans will not come out on cold, rainy Thursday night... You might have seen about 3,000 - 4,000 if the team was playing better and looking number 5 vs. number 6 teams.Originally posted by pepsicock:
Thursday night was cold and raining. Plus Thursday a work week night . Much better weather last night and today. Big crowd today and last night

The tail doesn't wag the dog. For most of us, watching Gamecock sports is a recreational pastime. I really don't see the point in criticizing fans who choose to spend their recreational time and money doing something else. I may not agree that they made the right choice, but it's their time and money to do with as they wish. The baseball team isn't a charity organization and unless my kid plays on the team, I shouldn't feel compelled to show up if I don't find it enjoyable to watch them. Fortunately or unfortunately, most people find the Gamecock baseball team's play over most of this season to be a frustrating and difficult thing to watch.Originally posted by JasonScottinSC:
