18 points is like 10 year old church league scoring. Particularly like being down 21 and walking the ball up court. GG has resorted to step back 3s with someone on him. If he gets an open three he shoots and simply watches it. Doesn’t follow his shot and doesn’t get back on D …just admires his missed shot.
I don’t get it.
Clearly there is now a rift that has occurred between Paris and GG. Kids in this generation just give up if they don’t want to do something. I know I sound like the boomer but it’s true. So basically they either patch this up and move on or it becomes a side circus for what’s left of the season. But without GG this team is going to struggle to score 50 most nights. Heck they struggle to get it with him.No one expected this team to be exceptional. That being said, no one thought we would be so herky jerky. When is the last time you watched a game when a team did not draw a personal foul for an entire half?
As for GG. What in the world is he thinking. We need his talent and ability. What is he holding back and why? Watching him play it looks as if he has opted out. I will continue to look for the best in our team but the on court performance is hard to watch. Why?
It's almost like they don't have a coach. Win unexpectedly, lose often, never consistent.38 -18 not us at half
Imagine that
To be fair, GG Jackson leads the team in rebounding. I question how hard Gray is working on the defensive end when he has only 7 more defensive rebounds than offensive. Anyone hitting the glass should have a lot more opportunities for defensive rebounds. By comparison, GG has 70 more defensive rebounds than offensive—which I’m sure is part of your point but if the offense has you out at the 3 point line it’s hard to rebound from there.GG is determined to do it his way right now and it’s not working. His shot selection is getting worse instead of better. The step back fadeaway 3’s are not it. He may develop that shot in the future. However, he just does not have a consistent enough shot to be given leeway to shoot it right now. He can make this about his disagreement with Paris. However, he is dropping himself in the draft with every game that he has like this. 1 Rebound at 6'9"? Come on man. You can at least get 8-10 rebounds even if you are struggling on the offensive end. Play not being called for you? How about getting something off the offensive glass. It's hard to rebound if you are hanging out at the 3 point line all the time though.
Then it must be coaching? Why not put GG under or near the basket at all times. Setting screens and cuts for him. Make teams collapse on him and the have Meechie and all-- makes 3'sTo be fair, GG Jackson leads the team in rebounding. Offensively it looks like just about everyone not named Gray is camping out at the 3 point line. Even he’s out there a ton setting screens. The only post offense we have is dribble penetration and dish.
I’m probably the wrong person to ask because I spoke out against the hire from day one. I don’t love what we’re doing on offense. No one is in the post and in the few times someone posts up then we don’t feed them the basketball. We have no inside presence which makes it easier to guard us on the perimeter. Then it must be coaching? Why not put GG under or near the basket at all times. Setting screens and cuts for him. I am not talkin about the season. I am talking about the last two weeks since he has been complaining about plays being drawn up for him. At his size, he could get it off the glass if he didn't float around at the 3 point line all the time. Also, they have been guarding GG with guards during conference play. He needs to get on the post more. I know he can do it because I have seen him do it. Maybe this is a coach thing as GG floats around the 3 point line too much. However, I doubt any sensible coach discouraging a 6'9" guy from playing inside. GG has just fallen in love with showing that he has an outside game to the detriment of his entire game. Maybe because he had a little too much success too fast, He played much better during non-conference as he mixed his game up more. I look at stats, but look at efficiency stats and the eye test of how he is playing more than the counting stats. He is just not an efficient player right now, and I bet you that is where the confrontation is coming from.To be fair, GG Jackson leads the team in rebounding. Don’t disagree with anything you’re saying but it’s hard to let a guy float around the 3 point line in November and December and then demand him to go down low in January and February. That’s a part of this problem.I am not talkin about the season. I am talking about the last two weeks since he has been complaining about plays being drawn up for him. Edit: I, also, wouldn't call 6 Rebs. a game good even if it leads the team. Further, you are not going to beat many people when your two most aggressive offensive players both shoot under 40% from the field. This seems to be a shot selection problem and teams that have that problem tend to have wild highs and lows based on them hitting shots.
Whoever that is, he/she is killing the money. NBA scouts are watching and probably see an immature, inefficient player right now and it is showing in the mock drafts. At the beginning of the season, GG was mostly considered as a Top 6-8 pick. That dropped down to late lottery at the beginning of conference play. He will probably drop out of the lottery in the Aggregate Mock draft when the next one comes out. They see the bad shots. They see the lack of mixing it up inside and getting rebounds. In spite of popular belief, everyone in the NBA does not make their money standing around shooting 3s. I am hopeful for GG, but I am beginning to get worried that he will get drafted like 20 in June and have to prove himself in the G League before he gets to play. Yea, he will get First Round Money, but Top 5 money is a lot different than Top 20 money. All of my concerns about him reclassifying are coming to pass. Could you imagine GG playing like this and the reactions it would get from Frank Martin if he was still here. GG may have already quit by now.Wonder who is getting in GG’s head lately? No telling. More than likely, somebody, as usual, that is telling him how great he is and how he needs to shoot it deep because that is what the NBA wants and where the money is. Maybe somebody that wants some of that money. A “hanger-on.”
