"A few things are for certain: Hoke is not going to accept the same
results the Gamecocks produced last season, he's not going to concede
to inexperience as an excuse and he's not going to allow the little
things to fall through the cracks during the preparation process."

We wanted a new head man on defense and we got him. I know he is co-coordinator but just like the article said, I truly believe he is the head "coach" on defense and Ward is still here because he is a great recruiter. I also still believe that Ward is a good coach and IMO it does not hurt to still have his level of experience on our defensive staff.

My only question mark is still the DL and I firmly believe that group has to improve or that current coach wont be here after next season. May even be the same situation for the LB coach.

It is my belief we just did not have the talent to step in and replace the dl players we lost after the 2013 season. Guys we felt could step in just were not quality SEC talent, especially on the dl,with the exception of Surratt. DE was a big liability.and those guys were not ready to step in and produce SEC results.None of these guys were play makers or game breakers like Clowney, Quarles or Sutton. Time will tell if the 2015 de recruits will be ready to produce better results.

Met him at the CofC Saturday tailgate. He and GA stopped by for a little while. Seems like a good guy.

Ward is a good recruiter, "great" is pushing it. He is here because we have to pay him even if we fired him since no one else wants to.

I really like what I am hearing about this guy. Dare I say that I am excited about next season? Would feel really good if Mitch or Scarnecchia really takes over the reins at the QB position this spring.

Here's my biggest takeaway from that article...

Lorenzo Ward, will now share the job with Hoke and focus more on the recruiting side of things, although he will also play a role in working with SC's run defense.

Is that the same run defense that he couldn't figure out what his best vantage point was to view the gaping holes and poor tackling? If he's a good recruiter why did we drop from #2 to #19 in the rankings? He barely got BAW and he lost Key from his "bread and butter" North Georgia game. If he's still on the team after next season there's something wrong.

he woulda done no better last year....this year they will be improved a lot....not because of hoke but because of pass rushers....it really is that simple...

I kinda disagree. I have seen a lot of less talented teams play solid defense. I think discipline and solid technique were definitely lacking. There is no question that we have added talent and experience.
