I don't know baseball...but I have never heard of a coach having to sit out 2 games. Why will he be out tomorrow too?

According to the commentators it's an NCAA rule that if an assistant coach gets tossed he has to sit a second game too.

Could appeal it based on no warning from the ump....you have to have some sort of warning.

Sure need to appeal it! I heard them say it is a NCAA ruling...but I think it is a stupid rule...when no one is physically hurt...that it is just words said.

I heard the SEC rule does not require sitting out additional games. Not sure saw it on another forum.

The NCAA rule is the only one that counts here. If an assistant coach is ejected, then he is out the remainder of that game and the next game. There is no appeal process and the ump doesn't need to give him a warning. A second ejection during the season for that coach would be a 3 name suspension.

People at the NCAA making rules, most likely never played the game...

I can see a coach questioning or complaining about the calls and the ump ejecting the coach if the ump can't take the heat. But for 2 games or more??? Stupid rule...

Here's a radical suggestion for today's game. Why not let the catcher and the pitcher, who are actually seeing the batter and the plate from the most advantageous positions on the field, CALL THEIR OWN PITCHES? Baseball is such a dreadfully slow-moving game that the amount of unnecessary over-coaching borders on insanity.

Well if Griener was behind the dish, that is what would happen. I do believe he was allowed to call his own game multiple times and did well. However, I would be surprised if Taylor has ever had that responsibility as even in high school and travel ball the pitches are often called by the coaches. Also it would require Taylor to be studying pitching charts on LSU without much notice.

Yeah this is not good at all. Maybe if we score 12 runs we'll have a chance. Someone will have to call pitches . I wonder who. . If Koch is a better pitch caller maybe he can call to Taylor. We need Taylor's bat.

I have a lot of respect for Meyers now since he stuck up for his players .
Me as well. Let me also add though that I've been very happy to see Chad getting on the umps and questioning bad calls more in the last couple of weeks. I have been critical of him in that department. I'll also add that I was impressed that he was able to keep his cool and still question the ump after Dew had tossed Jerry. At the time we couldn't afford to have them both gone. Now if we had to have one tossed last night, I would have preferred it to be Chad. When the head coach is ejected for arguing calls, he's available the next game. There is no 1 game suspension. So we would still have both Chad and Jerry today. However you can't fault them as Dew didn't give any of them a warning. It is such a stupid rule that just went in to effect in 2013. With as bad as Dew was last night, I'm pretty sure that if Toman were still an assistant here too, we would probably be down two assistant coaches today.

I TOTALLY agree....a catcher calling his own game is how it should be. Get rid of the damn wrist bands, put the pitching coach out in the bullpen and let the catcher and pitcher do what they know is best. I am so tired of everything being played and decided "by the book."

And having both coaches gone would be a bad thing...!!!! We need Toman....someone who shows some real and genuine emotion. Someone who at least seems to care. Holbrook is a dead/cold fish in the dugout. I think that last night was the FIRST time in 3 years that I have seen him actually go to the pitching mound. He is super glued to the dugout steps...emotionless and afraid that he might offend the opposition and/or the umpires.

Agreed, Meyers stuck up for his players. What the hell was Holbrook doing...? He was not arguing the bad calls as Meyers did...NO, he was begging the umpire to not throw Meyers out of the game. He was sticking up for no one. As the head coach, he should have supported Meyers and joined in the argument and criticism of the umpire. He was acting as a pacifist...trying to stop the fight. He should have gone ballistic over the umpires call and he should have joined Meyers in his effort to protect our players. Holbrook was pathetic......!!!

So by your logic, Holbrook should have gotten ejected with Meyers, which would have left us without a pitching coach AND A head coach. Your hatred of Holbrook, which is well-documented, is blocking your ability to think logically.

What did JMsay to cause the ejection?
if he called him a blind mf'ing sob then he would be right! I heard one of the announcers mention the A-hole earlier in the game. must've been talking about the damn ump! The no call on interference by the batter was pathetic.

Couldn't have said this better. Someone has to keep their cool in the dugout and it should be the head coach. You can't run around like a raving lunatic all the time because that act wears thin on today's recruits. Our situation would be a lot worse if that was what the head coach did all the time. The coach would lose the team and any big time recruits. And no, Chad hasn't lost this team. They still show some fight as they took 1 from the #1 team in the country. LSU is just a great team, period! The fans on this board have gotten ridiculous with their comments about Chad.
