If you read about the recent performance of their football and men’s basketball teams since he was hired in 2013, you might find some interesting familiarities…

Of course there’s one glaring difference…he’s out of a job.

I expect this means Laranaga will leave after this season and Frank will return home - think about who you’d want to be the new coach at USC next season.

That’s an interesting approach, fire an AD on yer expectations of 40 yrs ago.

I think that was Frank's plan, and hope. But Laranaga hung around way past when all thought he would retire. I can't imagine anybody hiring Frank at this point.
Particularly the ACC. The line of thought would have to be, "if he can't win in the SEC, then pray tell what makes anyone think he can win in the ACC".

Uh please don’t throw aspersions on Schnellenberger or Johnson. Hard work made them successful.
No doubt those guys worked hard.

But after some of their embarrassing issues their Administration banned them from placing a recruiting office in the Dade County Correctional Center, and they had to quit signing guys who would otherwise be arrested for stepping foot on campus if they weren't football players.

The "U" as people remember it in their glory days will be hard to resurrect. The quality of athletes they used to get featured a high "thug quotient", which doesn't mesh well with the Admin's ideas of an expensive private school.

They've brought several coaches back with Miami ties per the request of former players hoping to relive the glory days, but they can't do it without athletes.

I was responding to the prior post. I don't know how long it has been though it seems the downfall in arnest began around 2005 at the latest. Regardless, the administrations concerns with image and player conduct played a large role. There are plenty of articles that are easily locatable on the rise of UM....and I never said those coaches did anything wrong, just that current coaches don't seem to be allowed to do the same.

“ Especially when the university won't allow for what made them successful 30-40 years ago.”

The topic is 40 yrs ago, not yesterday.
Yeah, 30-40 years ago from 1980 to about 2001, they could recruit the heck out of inner city Miami kids. The BOT didn't like that the programs issues were smearing the school's academic reputation with, so they put a stop to it. They also made other mistakes, but that was a huge issue in their decline.

I lived in south Fla during the Johnson/Erickson years. Their absolute peak. Miami high schools were loaded with talent, I assume they still are, but they couldn’t keep the kids out of trouble.

The Canes always had someone getting a kid/player out of jail. It was a running joke. If they weren’t actively recruiting while there, I’d be surprised.

The Admin mindset has definitely changed since.

No kidding. We're talking about Miami 40 years ago (it's actually 30-35) compared to today. What happened in the days of Nevin Shapiro is not urban legend. But it is not happening today...that's why the Miami of today is not the Miami of 1987.

Our a/d should have been ran off the sane time Muschamp was. I really hope the powers to be have enough sense not give Ray any further contract extensions or pay increases pending the direction that our football goes in the next year or two.

Do tell! NO REALLY. Tell us more.
Lane Train?
Miami is determined to go after a big name, and money does not seem to be an issue this time.
Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but that is where they have set the targets on.
(Getting called out on Game Day on national TV has been the major catalyst to make these moves, the President and BOT were not happy with the bad publicity)
I can say there are 2 particular candidates that are out in front, however there are some complications in regards to their existing contracts that are being examined. One just got an automatic extension.
Both candidates have indicated some interest.

I do not think they would be interested

You will lose big time if you bet on our board to do the right thing

Miami Hurricanes to hire Clemson's Dan Radakovich as next athletic director, per report

https://247sports.com/Article/Miami...next-athletic-director-per-report--177178907/

Miami's main target appears to be coming closer to a reality. If there are no unexpected developments Miami may announce new HC hire by Monday, again assuming everything goes as planned. He's a high profile P5 HC.
As we've seen just this week, a lot of weird things can happen at the last minute, so we shall see.
