Richt QB evaulations at Georgia held him back, Bryan McClendon brought in the special running backs and some other skill people like Isiah Mckensie for that man.

I always thought UGA had great RB's and didn't use them right...

Kind of like us when we ran the ball down the throats with about 5 - 10 yards per clip and Spurrier would starting calling plays of throwing the ball in bad coverage...

Maybe Richt can change it, but Miami has terrible fan support at their games. They routinely play in a half empty stadium. Recruits look at UF and FSU and see a much better environment.

I'm sure the environment and all that can be experienced around Miami is more than adequate to get 18 year old men to come play for MR.

The U still carries a lot of weight with the kids. Always hated them but they did make college football exciting. Wouldnt mind to see them back at a high level.

The crowd situation will change once RIcht gets them winning consistency again. The Orange Bowl during Miami's run used to be full and LOUD (just watch the 30 for 30 documentary)

10 years of mediocre football and both Shannon and Golden not really trying to engage local talent and/or the local fans had a negative impact on fan support. If that isn't enough the competition for sport entertainment dollars in South Florida is pretty intense (pro baseball, football, basketball, hockey, beaches, etc).

You know as soon as they start winning big the fans will come out the woodwork just like Clemson fans in this state. Never saw so many five pieces of shat tags on so many pick ups.

Miami and that area is more fair weather fans. There are lot more things to do in Miami than Tallahassee. If they start winning their attendance will go back up. Have been to many games in old OB. Uncle graduated from there.

Richt had consistent top 5 recruiting classes at UGA. Recruiting has never been his problem.

Who would rather live in Gainesville or Tallahassee than Miami, though?

Richt is now in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country. He doesn't ever have to travel past Palm Beach county if he doesn't want to.
Miami could indeed become a monster again

That's one of the few jobs in the country that is a better reruiting gig than Georgia. Really strange how they've been down for this long.

Offhand I'd say that... come to think of it, Texas is the only job I can think of that is better in that regard, just talking about recruiting. I think Miami has a better situation than the other two Florida schools. Really don't think California is all that, these days Ohio State is very good, but they have to come south a lot too.

LSU has a good deal, but Lousiana is just one state, and a small one compared to the other hotbeds, no matter how good that talent is per capita. And they are just another school recruiting out of area when you get past Port Arthur and that area north of Houston.

The city screwed them when they demolished the OB and then refused to let them play in the new marlins stadium that was built on the site. The U hurt themselves by signing the contract for their current location instead of building an on or near campus stadium of their own.

Exactly. Teams that have been to the top can always make it back under the right leadership. Look how low Bama got before Bear Bryant went there. They had been down for decades, but they had been at the top before that.

Richt is the kind of man parents trust their kids with - a decent, soft-spoken Christian man. It helped his recruiting at Georgia. Now he can travel less to get more. The only proviso is he has to win soon or confidence in him will diminish.

But Miami and the stadium situation, while not ideal, won't be his ultimate downfall if he doesn't make it. That said, the school needs to break down and build an appropriately sized stadium of its own, like UCF did.

This is true but they have huge donors. The money may not go straight to the university, though.

Many Miami fans would love a stadium closer to campus, but the reality is, is that there is no available area large enough to build one. Certainly no room on campus, only possible location is Tropical Park about 4 miles from campus, but that is owned by Dade County.
Hard Rock stadium is a first class facility that has just been renovated. If RIcht get's them at a consistent 9 win or better team, he will get the 60k plus crowds.

Miami didn't build an on-campus stadium, or any stadium, because they couldn't ... and still can't .... afford to do so. Their fan support is pathetic, relative to most schools, especially wrt attendance. They don't have a large enrollment or alumni base.

There is no question, though, that they are located in the BEST high school talent area in America. Period. That alone will insure they are able to stay relevant with good coaching. It's still too early to know how Richt's tenure at his alma mater will fare.

I think so as well, but it's just better to have a place of one's own - on or near campus. Even Southern Cal plays in a leased place which they are paying to upgrade, but it is adjacent to their campus. It has the sense of being "theirs" - you know what I mean?

Some of you say anyone can recruit or coach at Miami its such fertile recruiting grounds. Well this isnt true at all, just look at history. The damn good coaches could win there just like anywhere else, cream rises to the top.

The fan support is atrocious ? Just like anywhere else , win and they will come.

Who would want to live in Miami over Tallahassee or Gainsville? Anyone that has been to all 3 of these places knows how beautiful it is in Coral Gables. If you have money Miami is the place to be imo. Most gorgeous place in the US.

UGA ran off a good coach and youre going to see how good Richt can be now that hes in Miami

I just returned from the Florida Gulf Coast and have been to South Florida, as well as Hawaii. I love small town life and small town culture. I resort to those other places for diversion, but to each his own.

Beaches and an abundant beautiful women...and a ticket to Sunday. Who cares about playing in front of 50K...btw that's the normal size of most NFL stadiums anyway.

I was about to say I don't get the Miami appeal, but then I looked at their class and most of the guys grew up close by.

South Florida is to college football what the Dominican Republic is to baseball. Small region, dense talent.
