Who is watching? I’d love to see Leach hang 50 on them. I doubt he’s taking the foot off the gas if he has a chance.

Would be nice to see the SEC have a good showing too, though I’m not shocked with any of the results in the bowl games so far.

Leach is getting shut down, and so is my over. Let's see the halftime adjustments.
I thought Miss State would put up big numbers too but in hindsight maybe we should have known otherwise.

Texas Tech probably practices against this everyday.

I said this on another forum in saying that the sec bowl game matchups will not bode well for the Sec. Looking more like 0-4.

So, other than Bama I could see all the other Sec bowl teams taking the L. Maybe Ole Miss over Baylor and UT over Purdue but who knows. That Iowa vs Kentucky game may have 20 points total in that one.

I’m just going by what I generally hear, that the Big 12 is all offense and no defense. This game is not showing that.

Plus, isn’t this Leach’s old team?
I know what you mean. I think there are some solid Big 12 defenses this year. Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas State are the ones that come to mind first.

I wouldn’t call Texas Tech a good defense. I just think they have a lot of experience defending against this offense.

If we are being honest the SEC was kinda dog shit this year minus Bama and UGA
That's being kind. Although UK, UT, A&M, and Ole Miss looked like football teams a good part of the time. But this year's SEC is abominable. 6-6 teams in bowls is an abominable situation anyway. [It's doubly shameful to lose to one, as that stalwart representative of the SEC West is about to do tonight.]

You upset about us being in a bowl too? Man, Beamer really has you all out of sorts.

We beat Auburn who took Bama to 4 overtimes, and we beat Florida, no way in hell UNC has a chance!! 🤔

As bad as the SEC was, and as bad as it has been in this Bowl Season, let’s not forget this MSU team beat NC State in the regular season.

I’ve been saying for years you don’t learn much during the Bowl Season, and that’s usually when the SEC is doing fairly well. I point to games like when we best Michigan in Muschamp’s 2nd year. They were clearly the better team and kind of turned off the switch when they got up big. We got a few plays to go our way and all of a sudden we came back and won. As a result we kept McClendon as our OC. It was a disaster.

Of the SEC losses, this one surprised me the most. Figured UCF would be fired up against Florida, figured Houston was a better team than Auburn, Missouri sucks and Army always wins that game. I thought Leach’s team would play for him.

Miss St was missing a lot of their front line players. Both OTs were out as well as 4 of their top 6 DL and 1 of the other 2 was hurt in the game.

TT coach who was a former TT QB is leaving to coach LaTech? Explain.

Sonny Jack Cumbie (born August 8, 1981) is an American football coach and former quarterback who is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech University. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas Tech University and was the interim head coach after the departure of Matt Wells in 2021. He also previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas Christian University (TCU). Cumbie played college football at Texas Tech and was their starting quarterback during the 2004 season, when he led the nation in passing and total offense, a guided the Red Raiders to win in the 2004 Holiday Bowl, earning MVP honors for the game.

Thanks. Should have been clearer with the question. laTech seems a step down from TT in my opinion.

Well he is head coach at La Tech. He was only offensive coordinator and QB coach at Texas Tech. After Tech's head coach left mid-season, they let Cumbie be the interim head coach, but he wasn't under consideration as Texas Tech permanent head coach. Note that Cumbie got a guaranteed $4.85 million dollar deal (avg $900K/yr) to take the La Tech head coach job. Cumbie as an asst coach at Tx Tech was paid about $875K, so it isn't a big increase, the big difference is the salary is guaranteed at La Tech and being your own boss as HC.

You are correct. Everyone at TT is Air Raid. Outgoing coach Wells....interim guy Cumbie (was actually a qb in the system at TT).
It's a weird dynamic. Leach brought it to TT....but that lineage has continued without him. THey are VERY familiar with the offense....at TT and in the B12. So great matchup for TT in this bowl game. Also...as I've stated before this offense has morphed and Leach has taken it another way and passes ad nauseum without taking what the Defense gives you which is a basic principle of the offense. He's so off the wall....weird that he hasn't taken the logical steps others have with the offense to keep it relevant.

Yeah I think most of the public missed the boat on this matchup and Vegas did too. Most (me included) thought Leach would run it up and blast his former team.

Texas Tech is a traditionally weak defense but playing a team that runs practically the same offense, one which they practice against all the time, was likely a huge advantage for them. The Red Raider defense knew what they needed to defend, had lots of time to prepare for it and certainly executed well.

I personally like Leach but will concede he is a pretty stubborn dude

I’ve always wondered if Vegas or the public has an advantage in these situations. On one hand Vegas hasn’t had as much time to do their homework. On the other the public is less informed as well….especially in week one.
