If you have a financial stake in the gamecocks, state what that is in your comments. I am a Gamecock club member, season ticket holder in football, basketball and baseball since 1969 and have attended many women's basketball games since Pam Parsons was coach. Steve Spurrier and Frank McGuire are the two best coaches in football and basketball ever at USC and Dawn Staley the best women's coach. Bobby Richardson and Ray Tanner were just as good in baseball as any coach in any sport in USC history.
I've been a Gamecock fan since the 60s (and grad in 1972) and want them to win every game in every sport. This is a discussion forum where we discuss things. If you are a Gamecock fan, you want to discuss and offer solutions (otherwise, you are just complaining - that's what they say on the job, don't give me problems, give me solutions). Why make a post if things are going well? By the very nature of human interaction (very long ago, they called it social intercourse!), we'll talk about things we'd like to be better. The Internet just makes it easier to expound - sometimes right and often wrong. Don't take it personally. As Coupe used to say, Gamecock Central is for fun and entertainment.

I am a member of the Super-Duper Gamecock troopers and also the He-man Clemson haters club. It's hard to top that. But seriously, it's sickening to hear people boast of how much money they spend on anything. As far as I'm concerned, you're no more a fan than someone who has never been in WB stadium. And if you've been doing it since 1969, I would have thought you would have humbled a little by now.

And you're not even a Gamecock Central Insider. Geez!

USC Athletics is not a business so NO ONE has a financial stake

in the Gamecocks other than the University itself.

People who donate money to the athletics department are not stockholders in the department. They are just fans who donate money.

You really can't argue with this logic. Sure, you might have sunk tens of thousands of dollars of your money into USC for your degree or your childrens' education, but unless you have the scratch and time to pony up for a Gamecock Club membership, you don't get to have an opinion.

Brilliant. Hey, soon2bretyrd, do I get all my money back for those Brad Scott games I attended? How about student athletic fees for watching those baseball games in the 1990s? How about the past 40 years without a win in the NCAA Tournament? Hell, I attended every game of Eddie Fogler's last season. Does that mean I get to have an opinion in your post-1st Amendment reality?

Again, brilliant. Go back to grumbling about whatever's on the news, grandpa.

I'm a member of the Rock'em Sock'em Gamecock'em Club and have been since Moses was a baby. Is it still OK if I express my views although I my dues are late?

This is a free Gamecock sports forum-not the Gamecock club. And just because you have club affiliations doesn't mean you're a bigger or better fan. Your opinion may carry more weight with Ray Tanner (not a whole lot more though unless you're Darla Moore) but not on this board. I had season football tickets for 10 years from 2001 to 2010 but I don't need to remind anyone and know it doesn't give me any more credibility on this board.

U.S.C. is a state run University and if you pay taxes in South Carolina then you are supporting the entire school. I appreciate the sentiment towards unnecessarily negative posts, but money shouldn't even be in the conversation. Nor should Pam Parsons, Richard Bell, Brad Scott, Babs LaLay, or Steve Newton. IMHO

So now people are saying aren't allowed to have an opinion if they are not a GCC member? Wow, what arrogance. Listen, you want to worship a certain coach that you like and never hold him/her accountable for anything, that is your deal. If others fans not on board with your beliefs on the matter, screaming to high heavens about it is not going to stop them. Do you not understand that some people do not give 1 booger about the "history" of USC sports. The fans want to see their teams elevated because the history is not good and that is all they care about. The poor history in one sport or another is not be used and an excuse to put bad teams on the field. The coaches are getting paid to do a job, that job requires they put a good team on the field every year and if they are just starting to make reasonable progress toward getting to that point.

Fans have different levels of expectations. If they have high expectations that doesn't make them negative. I consider it negative to always bring up how bad a history we have and talk about that like is should matter. Nothing is more negative than that.

I bought a soda at the spring game, does that entitle me to at least one post?

I like your style CoastGuard...
Let's make it a bit more concrete...
1 post for every dollar you've spent towards supporting USC.
For me, I hope it includes parking tickets and library fines - I paid almost as much as I did in tuition. And I definitely spent more tailgating than I did in tuition.

First off, it's none of your damned business what or how much money I spend on anything! Secondly.......just try to stop me from posting on this forum about any sport, sport!

Just a thought though, can you go outside when it's raining and not drown?

If you notice, the same 5-10 guys complain about EVERYTHING. Not sure if it's a deliberate attempt to make this board miserable or that they are just miserable people.

Sounds like the only person who shouldn't be fired is Dawn Staley. I'm sure that will come in time.

Then you have a financial stake in the gamecocks....

And what about the displaced Gamecocks or service men and women who love the University but aren't in a position to support it?

What about fans who love USC but aren't financially in a position to attend or give money?

I don't think that we should silence them, and asking people to tout themselves and their giving on here is just ridiculous. It's no one's business really, and it doesn't make people's statements about the program any less accurate. Whether they're right or wrong will not be changed by their giving level in the Gamecock Club, My Carolina, or whether or not they attended our school.

It's one thing to post concerns about USC athletics in a caring respectful tone. It's another to complain/troll. How much one has/has not contributes financially to USC and/or the Gamecock Club is irrelevant.

If I order a cup of water at the Spring Game, does that count as a financial contribution?

Agree with the original poster, and knew he would get trounced for suggesting the truth. There are a LOT of people on this board with no "skin in the game." Yes, I know there are circumstances, anomalies and anecdotes, like fans who live in far away states or service men and women. But if you live in SC or large parts of NC or GA and you aren't actually attending at least some of the games, just STFU at some point.

The free poster's I get may offset that soda though, I may be in violation of the "pay for post" agreement.

I knew this would be a golden thread as soon as I read the OP...
I honestly feel like the OP has honest intentions OVERALL although the post was a touch misguided with it being tied to money. All schools have fans that didn't go to the school or who don't contribute thousands of dollars in donations to the school each year. Our school is not different in any way to any other major conference school in that regard.

I don't enjoy the guys who bitch and moan either and even though this is a free board and I believe everyone has the right to post negative comments as long as they stay within the rules of the board. I do think that since it is a free board that is the first option for "outsiders" to come in and engage our fan base - or to take a pulse of our fan base...so the abundance of negative comments cant help us when it comes to perception or recruiting.

I don't really know how often recruits read boards like this or if it even plays at all into their decision making but I cant imagine being a recruit this past cycle and gaining ANYTHING positive from visiting this board. Of course I would be more concerned about playing time, my coaches, my position, facilities, my major, my parents input, etc - not so much a free message board.

For me - the negativity is just a downer - it's understandable that we are all a little bummed about FB and Men's BB programs - so I get it to a degree but some guys I feel like take the negativity too far and it makes coming on here not very fun. But....free board...I mean, what do you REALLY expect?

....in conclusion......there is no conclusion....

Go Gamecocks!!!

Well,

Let me say this...

I'm related to the Tillmans...
My father was a member of the Gamecock Club for 40+ years
I was a member of the Gamecock Club for 20+ years until the season tickets priced me out...
I went to Carolina and walked on the football team back in the 80's...
I started heckling at the baseball games starting in the late 70's to 90's (Having kids stop me from Heckling)
My wife Graduated from Carolina
My older son will Graduated from Carolina this Spring..
My other son is at Carolina and will transfer to Clemson next year because of friends and major... (He's be the one wearing Carolina sweatshirts and T-shirts at Clemson during class)

So I do think I have a stake of being Negative towards Clemson....
