If the new bill passes allowing college athletes to be employees and form unions, then it is all over and who in the world would want to coach 18-19 year olds who form a "union"? So this bill would give players ability to bargain for compensation, set work hours, set working conditions, and more. Beyond that, if they are paid as employees they will still not be taxed or pay taxes according to bill.
So we want to give some of the prima donnas the ability to dictate everything. As if they dont already, a good many of them, think they are Gods gift to a college campus and see themselves above the regular student, this will make it worse. If they get paid, my thought is, no more full scholarships. Take the money you make and pay school the way others do. You dont get free school and then get paid for going as well as insurance, full medical care, meals, tutoring and much more that is completely inaccessible to regular students.
Also, why am I not surprised one of those pushing this bill is Bernie Sanders?
I love college sports because so many play for the love of the game knowing they more than likely wont go beyond that level. Now it will be all about getting paid. Players will sit out when not happy, wont practice (Iverson anyone?), wont listen to the coaches much at all.
OK maybe I am seeing it worse than it is but I truly dont see this ending well at all.
