Newspring?

Y'all do realize that y'all are letting yourselves be trolled while also making this board look like idiots.

The guy is a new member. His only post are in this thread. This entire thread is going around on twitter. All of you are being laughed at for buying his crap.

He claims to have been an employee for three years at the Columbia campus. The problem is when I approached him in a PM he doesn't respond to my questions about his time on staff. The funny thing is, all my time at NewSpring Columbia (since 2010) no one matches his length of time on staff. Also, no one refers to them as employees. They refer to them as staff. Also, he thought I was asking him if he was on the board. There's no board at NewSpring.

Also, Bitcoin. One of the most traceable forms of payment out there.

Is Clemson paying players? Probably. Is South Carolina paying players? Probably. Is every school paying players? Most likely.

It's not being done through NewSpring. The church has given millions of dollars away domestically and overseas. Why dont y'all know about this? Because we don't go to media about anything we do. We just do it. We be the church. Like most of you claim we know nothing about.

Finally, if you attend another Church and trash NewSpring or any other church out there you are in the wrong.

Cultist alert!!!!

Can I get one of those trendy t-shirts you guys sell at the front? How about the Harley Davidson bike give away? When are you doing that again?

As I stated earlier, Clemson got in on Bitcoin early. An untraceable currency, its better than using giftcards.

Newspring's influence really started to take off after the Newspring Clemson campus broke ground, Dabo led the majority of players to attend church there, and several baptisms took place. Big money donors saw this as an opportunity to funnel money via bitcoin to recruits, players, and their families. Contrary to popular belief, the money didn't go directly through Newspring itself, as that would be traceable. Clemson boosters (through Perry's knowledge I might add) give bitcoin to Church "owners" who would convert it to cash and distribute it on a weekly basis to Clemson players, basically a modern form of the $100 handshake. Seriously on what other college campus do all the players attend the same church?

As far as how they paid cash to recruits' families, that gets a little more murky, the numbers I heard bandied about varied wildly and the actual process in getting cash to recruits I was never privy to.

This is the biggest load of BS I've read here in awhile.

For those innocent souls who might be on the fence about what this fool is spewing, the only way for recruits to get bitcoin bribes would be if they had coinbase accounts already - or something similar. Since most of these kids don't even have checking accounts, I'm calling BS on any recruit getting paid in bitcoin, anywhere in the country, ever.

This guy is implying that football and religious knuckle draggers were somehow in early on one of the most obscure and volatile currencies in modern history?

Also, all bitcoin-to-cash transactions are 100% traceable by the IRS. Unless these recruits are long-holding cryptocurrency investing gurus, they would have already cashed in and it would be very, very traceable. It's called capital gains tax.

Quick question about the traceability of Bitcoin. Do you think it’s too late for us to get in on the action? I’m thinking some of these recruits could be billionaires by now if they were given a couple thousand bucks in bitcoin when it first started up. Which block chain would you recommend, and must it be set up through a church, or do you think it’s untraceable enough that a single or a few bitcoin bagmen could make a play for about a dozen 5 Star atheletes?

I doubt other SEC schools (besides auburn) have thought of this. Just wondering, given it untraceability it might be a valuable thing for us if we can work out the logistics. What recruit wouldn’t want to play IN the SEC for bitcoins?

No.

So these people within the church, know of these sinful and illegal acts, are bitter about it, but dont want to turn them in? Seems legit.
Illegal? No...not any law that I am aware of...even tax laws unless the donor fails to report the gift. It would not be a criminal matter. Sinful? I guess that depends on your definition of "sin." I wouldn't consider it a sin to give money to a needy family....regardless of the reason. You may want to try "against NCAA regulations." If true, it could definitely be that.

Is that how proof works? That's like me saying you are a white collar embezzler and have stolen millions from your company. Prove that you're not. Oh, you can't prove it? Well, that makes it true then, right?
Not a criminal matter....at all. NCAA doesn't require "proof beyond a reasonable doubt." All the NCAA requires is "preponderance of the evidence"....if that much.

C'mon man, this is dumb. The burden of proof is on the one making the accusation. I'm all for a good conspiracy theory, but can we not sound like uneducated pricks while doing so?
Thanks for pointing that out your honor, but the problem with that logic is, this ain’t no courtroom so there ain’t no ‘burden of proof ‘ on a message board. Objection denied!

No it just means that any insurance salesman or anyone else can fire and hire coaches until they find out what works and pays them good money. Example, Morris coached in college one year before Dabo took a chance and hired him. Then Dabo took a chance and turned it over to two unproven OC's and it worked also. Basically all the HC does is hires assistants and makes decisions and that is all. If Dabo was so great then why was he a WR coach under Bowden and probably the lowest paid assistant?
It's just people making excuses for Dabo kicking ass.

Really, it's so easy that I'm surprised more people aren't doing it.

When has Clemson ever been any good at football without some shady dealings going on behind the scenes? But was worth it I figure. They built two decks and won a national championship on the sins of Charley Pell and Danny Ford, yet proudly display the NC while screaming that everyone else could get the death penalty. Dabo doing the same. If you notice, everybody that comes out of Alabama seems to know the tricks. Think about it. A kid from the hood decides he wants to spend four years in Clemson because of Dabo’s shining personality? Yeah, right. But I will tip my hat to them. Whatever they are doing should be tried in Columbia.

Reach down and pick up the bundle and stick it in your uniform

Not a criminal matter....at all. NCAA doesn't require "proof beyond a reasonable doubt." All the NCAA requires is "preponderance of the evidence"....if that much.
The NCAA no longer polices college athletics, the NCAA is now a political organization that uses its weight to financially penalize states that do not support its agenda.

I knew they were getting these 5 star guys from dirty tactics. No way anyone would want to go there. It's Perry noble and his new spring money. I mean he is still there right? Has to be that dang new spring money. It couldn't be anything else. I knew it. Only a matter of time til they get busted. They are the dirtiest program.

And for what it's worth, religion is the biggest scam in human history. Newspring is just one of the best scammers out there right now.

I don't know about Newspring, but please don't throw a blanket statement over my church and my beliefs.

Well for a team whose QB gets tackled by a freakin referee (Steven Garcia/Wilbur Hackett), it’s not hard to imagine we got choked out by a mega church.
This IS USC we’re talking about. Suffering just seems to be in the cards for us.
The timing really seems weird though. This stuff took off right after Cam was exonerated at Auburn. Almost like a lightbulb came on.

C'mon man, this is dumb. The burden of proof is on the one making the accusation. I'm all for a good conspiracy theory, but can we not sound like uneducated pricks while doing so?

That would take all the fun out of a msg board, dude.

NewSpring really isn't the kind of church that would have a southern gospel group perform. Like, I haven't seen one in the 10 years I've been there.
It's also not a place where you hear the real gospel of Jesus Christ! I like to see documents of this "millions of dollars" given to projects around the world. Is there a web site where you publish your financial statements?

This is the 2016 annual financial report. You can find previous years as well if you are interested.

This link gives an overview of all funding but if you go to the bottom of the finances page there is a link to the detailed, external audit that breaks it down into much more detail.

I'm not one to judge where you choose to attend church, that's between you and God, or Allah, Shiva, Buddha, etc. And you can spend your hard earned money wherever you choose.

That aside the "audit report" from the website is laughable. For an organization of its size the "detail" provided is woefully insufficient. NewSpring, Elevation, Lakewood, etc never provide detailed financial report for scrutiny. This should concern anyone giving to an organization. No member of any one of these organizations knows what their tithes are being used for, what their true revenue and expenses are or even how much their pastors are being paid.

I have no doubts the tax-free status is abused, especially in the megachurches.

It is...in all types of organizations. Always be careful of thrifts who say they donate the funds raised to some eleemosynary cause....as they are only required to donate 7%. The IRS won't even mess with churches. The IRS finally gave up after it's long fight with L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology....that is one of the most interesting and ugly tax cases in history.

I don't know about Newspring, but please don't throw a blanket statement over my church and my beliefs.

I certainly meant no offense. What I should have said is - in my experience - I think there's a significant difference between church and religion. I think church can be a fantastic thing. Likeminded folks getting together and doing good where and however they can. When it's a community bonded by common sense, good natured values, it's an irreplaceably positive part of people's lives.

But too many people look straight past this element of church and view everything through a very specific religion (not everyone obviously, I don't mean to project). But most religions are rooted in outdated dogma and violate very basic laws of nature and science. It can also cause people who mean well to contradict the goodness they think they represent.

The nail in the coffin for me is when the Joel Osteens and Perry Nobels of the world tell me if I don't live my life by a very specific set of rules, written and edited by guys who didn't even know the earth was round, or donate 10% of my paycheck to them every week, I'm going to their version of hell. It's absurd and offensive to me that these guys think they have all the answers to life and the afterlife, despite having no evidence for their prescribed method of living.

So when someone says they have religious faith, it's not faith in the existence of a god, it's faith that the guys who claim to have the answers aren't wrong. There's a massive, and very worrisome difference between those two things. It can be dangerous too. I know people who have made horrible and life altering decisions because they genuinely believed "God was on their side".

So again, no offense to anyone or their beliefs, after all my beliefs are simply based on my own observation and deduction (and who the hell am I?), but that's my abbreviated reasoning behind what I said earlier.

TLDR: Church and community good. By the book religion for its own sake, not so good (and potentially dangerous).

I was not trying to pick a side in this debate. I was simply replying with a link showing the financial reporting from Newspring as the previous poster requested.

However, I find it interesting that no one would question the financial report of The Gamecock Club or Iptay and they give the same amount of detail as the church financial statement.

The USC 2016 financial statement is available here: http://osa.sc.gov/Reports/stateengagements/universityofsc/Documents/Financial Statements/H2716.pdf

You can find Iptay reports here: https://www.clemson.edu/giving/cufoundations/endowment/audit-fin-statements.html

I guess I don't understand the hate people have for church donations in general. No one here has ever been forced to donate to a specific church. Why does it bother so many people that Newspring raises so much money and how they choose to spend that money if those same people are not contributing a dime to the organization?

It would be the equivalent of people on this board getting mad at how much Iptay for Clemson is earning in donations and how they are choosing to spend that money when the same people are not contributing a dime to the organization. If you don't contribute in the first place, why would you care how much the coaches for Clemson get paid? The same goes for the church. If you don't contribute, why do you care how much the pastors and staff get paid?

I personally do not harbor any hate for church donations. And regularly donate to my church and would encourage others to do the same if so moved. What I do not like is the lack of transparency, not only in churches but in any exempt charitable organization. If you are content with the level of transparency provided by an organization you attend and give to, so be it. It bothers me that any tax exempt organization doesn't provide details of how they use those funds. In cases like NewSpring and Elevation, I find it worrisome that even those that are members and do donate have no idea how their donations are being spent and those that run those organizations get awful defensive when asked.

If you are a member, I would encourage you to ask for a line item budget including projected and actual numbers for the last year. I doubt you will be provided one and again that would worry me if I was in that position. We could get into the biblical basis for how a church should be organized and governed but my point is all charitable organizations should be completely open about what they do with others money. I think the law needs to be changed on what reporting is required by 503c organizations in general.

The comparison to IPTAY and The Gamecock Club is a bad example.
IPTAY and the GCC release fully audited financial statements providing a complete accounting of all cash flows. Those financial statements provide copious details. The link for IPTAY that you provided shows just the auditors report, many more details are available here: https://www.clemson.edu/finance/controller/cafr/
And upon request anyone can receive the full financials on IPTAY alone, not consolidated ones, showing every revenue and expense item in great detail. I am certain the GCC is the same. I have no need to question those two organizations as there is sufficient transparency, and rightly so. If anyone, regardless of their affiliation or participation in either of these organizations, wants the information on salaries or expenses it's there to see.

Why do some churches and other 503c organizations lack this level of transparency? Could it be because if people really knew how their donations were spent they would stop donating?

At the end of the day, do what you want with your money. But you shouldn't be surprised when an organization that raises millions of dollars, has leaders who build multi-million dollar homes, are constantly building new branches, and appear flush with cash get questioned. Especially when they are getting the cash under the auspices of religion. We have seen this same song and dance before and how it has crashed and burned. When that happens it tarnishes all churches.

TLDR: Do what you want with your money but know how your charity is used. You should care. IMO it is acceptable to question any organization that is tax exempt. The law on 503c reporting should be changed.

This is the 2016 annual financial report. You can find previous years as well if you are interested.

This link gives an overview of all funding but if you go to the bottom of the finances page there is a link to the detailed, external audit that breaks it down into much more detail.
Wow. My church with less than a million in cash intakes has a more detailed financial sheet. 6.5 million in depreciation considered outreach ?? 16.5 million in salaries?

Wasn't too long, I read it in its entirety and it is well-written. I have no argument with what you have posted. You've always been a fair-minded dude.

They were offering a fantastic deal a couple of years ago. Tithe by giving 10% for 3 months, and if your dreams didn't come true they'd refund your tithe! How awesome!
