Nick Emmanwori

4.4 at that size is elite athleticism, probably a linebacker like you say.
It sounds like that was a timing from a HS camp or practice, so perhaps not terribly accurate but the man can move for his size no doubt! He just looks like he will grow to LB size once he is in a college weight lifting program to me, but having an athlete like that with flexibility around what position he can play can be a real asset. We do not have elite talent at LB right now but we have more of a need from a numbers standpoint at DB- so getting a guy who can potentially play any of those positions one day is a positive in my book! He is a local kid too- knows the rivalries we have, probably grew up watching the Gamecocks. I like this pickup… Hope he turns into a good one!

Emmanwori's situation is very similar to WR commit Kyric Horton's: they both are Gamecock Summer Camp offers when they participated in the first week of June. Emmanwori is a little bigger than Horton at 6-4, 195. Like Horton, he timed a 4.4 40 at the summer camp, so I don't know how accurate that is (hand or laser timed).

Emmanwori also had a 10'-8" broad jump at the camp - I don't know how that measures up, but apparently it's representative of great athleticism.

He only had offers from Charlotte, Georgia Southern, and Richmond prior to ours, but the coaches get to eval prospects personally under their own terms in the camps, so when they offer kids who participate, I think they feel they are getting a good one......

Also, per the guys here at Rivals, Emmanwori was one of the three "silent" commitments. He committed to the staff last week on Wednesday, but wanted to wait until today to publicly announce it. 247sports' timeline has him attending his official visit with USC starting today, so if true perhaps he wanted to make the call while on his official.

Per outside recruiting sources, the other two remaining silents are expected to publicly announce Saturday, so we'll see what happens....

Excellent size for a safety. 4.4 speed. 100 tackles (a lot for a safety). Add a few lbs and could be a LB. This guy could be a huge pickup. May be like a DJ Swearinger.

NR by the so-called "experts". The staff evaluated him and offered. This is what I mean about the BS star crap. These guys are not evaluators of talent. Just watch. Now that he has an SEC offer they will rank him probably a 3*. These guys aren't predictors of talent, they are a bunch of parrots.

Agree. That’s why I look more at the list of offers, as opposed to the star rating. When coaches who are known for being good at evaluating talent make an offer then you know it’s a good player.

That size and speed to me invokes DeVonte Holloman. Little taller little faster, and Holloman made the move from safety to SPUR and we seemed to use 4-3 alignments more with him than we did with Stewart and Allen which with his skill set he was just as effective setting the edge to turn the run inside like a true OLB but also covering over top of split TEs and just cleaning up what's bounced to him in the open field like our new system calls for with the nickel. I know in our system the nickel is gonna be a true corner, but I wonder how this guy could do with the hybrid role, cause he's got the size for the box and the speed to be a Rover type. Also makes me wonder if he could be like the safety that orange place in the upstate had a couple years ago that would line up as safety, nickel, LB and even DE for pass rush for whatever they thought gave them the best matchup.

Yeah, I agree. I wasn't trying to compare him physically with DJ, only in the quality type of player. DJ was not highly rated when he came in but obviously he was NFL quality talent. I hope this guy turns out to be the same, wherever he plays. At this point he looks to be a safety, but who knows in a couple of years of development. I would love to see him grow into a LB position. Not many LBs have that kind of speed. He could cover receivers and backs coming out of the backfield and get outside to stop runs to the corner. Lord knows we do need some good LBs too.

Are you a current or former coach or player? You sure know the lingo. Just wondering.

That's one thing to look at, but this guy's best offer besides us is Georgia Southern. I think you have to trust the coach's evaluation more than anything. They have seen all the film, and watched the players work out in camps. I have been skeptical of Beamer as the hire for HC simply because of experience, but he has been around for a long time and does know talent when he sees it. It will be interesting to see how this recruiting season turns out. So far I would say better than expected at this point.

He does look like maybe he has some very good potential. But I would expect a coach from Irmo to say good things about an Irmo player.

Horton is getting flagged rankings wise because he play 8-man football. Emmanwori plays in the best level of high school football in SC, he should be four star imo. His measurables and film are awfully good.

At 6'4" 195 pounds with that kind of speed and leaping ability, options abound for this kid. I'm sure he'll get looks on both sides of the ball. I could see him at WR, TE, safety, OLB. The coaches will have to see what comes natural to him and where he'll fit best. He's a good looking athlete without a doubt.

Yep. I made that same observation in an earlier post. I will trust this staffs judgement until proven otherwise. Making an offer based on camp performance means they saw something they liked.

This is an example of shortened seasons, limited game attendance and virtually no camps over the past year until this June allowing a freak athlete to fall through the cracks for some recruiting services. 247 has him as a 3*, Rivals has not even rated him yet. This is likely to happen more in this class… at the very least- everyone who saw him in camps thinks he is a D1 player. Locally he is a standout.. I assume Rivals will give him a rating soon.

While I think trust should be earned and not given, ultimately we have no idea how these evaluations will turn out.

Historically these camp evaluations turn out to be busts far more often than booms. But I hope I'm wrong and Beamer turns out to be the unicorn because I'm tired of losing.

Camp evals turn out to be busts more often? How do you think coaches evaluate talent? They must get all the good ones by signing them blind from recruiting rankings? What a bunch of BS! 😂

Some guys used to be lowly ranked and/or limited offers even though they looked like the next Dion Sanders or something. That usually meant there was either grades or behavior problems with that kid. I'm going to blame it on the covid excuse as of now. Hopefully he will be an All American some day for us.

Film, visiting high school games, etc. The elite kids don’t even work out at these camps.

I know you’re a complete homer so I’m wasting my time.
