This NIL and portal is going to really challenge Dabo's All In agenda. The day that clemson joins the SEC will be the day that the clemson's football coach resigns from clemson.
Alabama is good, real good. The SEC, due to dysfunction at a couple of schools and coaching instability through the years, has slipped from its former place of preeminence. We sent at least four teams to bowls that purely blow. Kentucky got shut out today - shut out - by Iowa. This league sucks. Once you get below LSU, it sucks.
Their defense was way off. They are one of only four good teams in the league. And LSU only borders on being good.Alabama is good, real good.

King, you and I usually agree, but I beg to differ on this. It wasn’t a good bowl year for the SEC, but ANY SEC team that plays outside of the conference gets the other teams BEST effort, they all wish to beat the SEC!!The SEC is supposed to be the preeminent league. That's what the television money is supposed to be buying. I hope Georgia rallies. If they go down, the ignominy will be complete.

And a lot of them are doing it. Some of our teams (UK and Florida stand out; Missouri semi-sucked vs. Wake Forest; Ole Miss got drilled) were downright uncompetitive. All this money the SEC is banking on making and distributing is predicated on the fact that he SEC has clearly been the foremost conference. If that distinction be not maintained, the money will eventually take a hit. The Big 10 is making a strong push to unseat he SEC. Even the two programs we are bringing in had their @$$e$ handed to them this bowl season. The SEC's place at the top is precarious. Hopefully the games tomorrow will be more salutary.King, you and I usually agree, but I beg to differ on this. We need to kick @$$ - I mean kick @$$. Some schools (Auburn stands out) have got to get their houses in order.Only two of our nine bowls so far have been decisive wins. Not a good time to be down as a conference with the 12 team playoff looming. Last thing we need is the strength of the conference in question. We really need to get back to dominance next year... it might pay big dividends for the next decade when it comes to how many teams get in.
SEC would have at least 3 teams in this year had it been a 12 team CFP.Only two of our nine bowls so far have been decisive wins. During the regular season, I think the SEC had some success against other conferencesToo many players out for bowl games these days to rank conferences based on bowl game wins. Opt outs have been a small problem in the past. Portal transfers made it much worse.
Valid point. Does make me wonder how much it hurts the SEC compared to other conferences. I would imagine a little worse but idkToo many players out for bowl games these days to rank conferences based on bowl game wins. Opt outs have been a small problem in the past. Yeah we have been in the catbird's seat for a long time. Would like to see that continue.SEC would have at least 3 teams in this year had it been a 12 team CFP.
Bowl games are no more than exhibition’s at this point. Judging strength of teams based on these games is realistic. Perception affects the brand. Extenuating circumstances measure people's relative ability to compensate. That requisite will grow in importance. We're just getting started on this road. People will be judged.Bowl games are no more than exhibition’s at this point. Judging strength of teams based on these games is realistic. You are right. If you eliminate the best SEC teams, the conference is not as good. This league sucks. Once you get below LSU, it sucks.
The SEC has two chances to win today - one of them involves a team already classified by me as "good".You are right. If you eliminate the best SEC teams, the conference is not as good.
And so would the Pac 12.SEC would have at least 3 teams in this year had it been a 12 team CFP.
In a 12-team format - possibly. That's based on performance over 12 or 13 games (with a league championship game), mind you. Some of those first round games in the new format are going to be laughers because you're going to be letting way more pretenders in there. Certainly the Big 10 could have sneaked in another team this year in a 12-team situation - possibly the one that won the Rose Bowl today. No, they wouldn't necessarily deserve it.USC, Utah and ??? Oregon?
Idk, the "laugher" games dont look that bad to me this year. I'd watch. Top 6 conference champions by rank this year #s 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 and 16. Weakest being conference champ Tulane. But they more than likely are as good or better than the cfp #12 if they went strictly by rankings. They did just beat #10 and looked pretty good doing it.In a 12-team format - possibly. Those are good observations which might prove valid, but this is going to be a seeded event with several (six) guaranteed spots to highest ranking conference champions, plus six at-large participants. Add to that the 6 at large. Sounds about right to me. Maybe even better than I expected.
But even if we did have a laugher game or two, imo it's a small price to pay to let all the schools in D1 know they have a path to the NCG.
I'm pretty familiar with tournament play. Since byes will be used for the top 4 seeds, that will further decrease the chance of massive mismatches in the first round. By the second round, those lower seeds will have proven their worth one way or another. If they are pretenders, they will be exposed. Those are good observations which might prove valid, but this is going to be a seeded event with several (six) guaranteed spots to highest ranking conference champions, plus six at-large participants. I'm familiar with the plans. Some people are going to get their @$$e$ beat and some deserving teams are going to lose good players beating teams that don't even deserve to be there. They've got something right now that is as close to perfect as they could ever have and are profaning in in the name of money. Not surprising, but not right, either.I'm pretty familiar with tournament play. No system is perfect. This system is no exception. You can find fault with all if you look for it. My point is this may not be as bad as some folks think.
I just made a case for byes and I despise byes. That's a pretty big concession on my part toward a system I think could be better.I'm familiar with the plans. Any advantage that a bye team gets will earned by superior play prior to the playoffs, both during the regular season and/or championship Saturday. Those top four teams deserve something. All of this gerrymandering is ridiculous anyway. They've taken something that worked well and introduced all sorts of potential injustice into it.I just made a case for byes and I despise byes. What I'm not going to do is feel bad if one of the so called better teams loses a player to a lesser team when they get to play one less game than their opponent. All they have to do is play one game and they are in the final 4... and I would call their opponent a quality and tested opponent by then.
That's one extra game to include everyone in D1 and allow an additional +/- 1000 players a chance to experience playing for a national title. I'm ok with that, so I'm ok if it's not done exactly how I'd like it to be.
The seed they recieve is a reward for their season play. It's not like they would not be rewarded if there were no byes.
