Had a chance to catch up with 2022 big man target Jai Smith, who is on the Gamecocks' board for the class and is someone who've they've offered a scholarship to.

Smith picked that offer up in November at the end of a very strong summer for him and his recruitment. He says he still hears from South Carolina frequently. Frank Martin is handling his recruitment for the most part, which is a sign he's high up on South Carolina's list in terms of big men targets.

He recently picked up offers from Texas, Illinois Oregon and is hearing Kansas as well. South Carolina is one of the schools that's standing out to him right now along with Kansas, Texas and Memphis. NC State is another school to watch here as well.

It's still very early in the process for the junior and he's someone who wants to take as many visits as he possibly can before making a decision.

When visits are allowed, Smith mentioned South Carolina is definitely a place he wants to get to. Clemson, Houston and Memphis were others he mentioned as places he'd like to visit.

South Carolina felt very good after offering Smith and the response he gave in talking with the staff and Smith likes what he's seen from South Carolina so far, mentioning he likes how hard he plays. He also really likes Frank Martin.

Smith also played AAU ball this summer with 2021 signee Jacobi Wright.

The power forward grew up in Syracuse, New York but is playing now at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC.

Through three games he's averaging 18 points per game on 50 percent shooting. He's averaging 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and assist per game. That's all being done in 9.7 minutes per game.

We'll have more on Smith tomorrow with more of his comments.
