Chris and I have continued to dig for names to watch out for with the offensive line hire and these two have come up lately.
** Marshall offensive line coach/ recruiting coordinator Greg Adkins.
A veteran coach, Adkins has coached offensive lines at Oklahoma State (2015-17), Syracuse (2009-12), Tennessee (2003-08), Troy (2001-02) and Georgia (1996-2000), according to his bio. He also handled recruiting duties at Syracuse, Tennessee and Troy. A Marshall grad, Adkins has spent the last three seasons there, putting players on the All-conference team all three years. He, obviously, coached with new Gamecocks strength coach Luke Day there.
** LSU offensive analyst Mark Hutson.
A former NFL player and veteran coach, Hutson spent the last two seasons as an analyst at LSU where he worked in 2019 with Joe Brady, who we hear speaks very highly of him. Hutson also has an extensive track record and spent 2016-18 as the assistant offensive line coach with the Browns.
** We had previously mentioned FSU OL coach Alex Atkins as a guy we were tracking, but I don't get the impression at this time that he's going to be the guy.
** While we still don't have an exact timeline for the OL hire, the South Carolina board of trustees is set to meet tomorrow morning with the approval of athletics contracts on the docket. The BOT still has to approve contracts of Clayton White, Marcus Satterfield and Torrian Gray, but it would make sense to go ahead and knock them all out at once if an OL and/or DL coach are in place. We don't know the exact number of contracts that are up for approval at this time.
