How many think Kirby will adhere to athletic dept. policy at GA and remove Natrez Patrick after his third possession charge.....Not me.

This is the drastic difference in the once teammates Champ v. Smart!

And another difference; one took over a 10-win team chocked-full of talent, the other took over a 3-9 team largely devoid of D1 talent.
There was talent on the team, not the level to compete but plenty of D1 talent. Florida was 4-7 this year, but they had dumpster fire of coaching issues. Florida State is the most talented roster of a 6-6 team I’ve seen in forever. Just because you don’t have a winning season doesn’t mean you’re Presbyterian level talent. We just had no good coordinators, Spurrier cared more about Golf and the players no longer cared, but there was some talent.

He suspended Patrick for 4 games earlier this year. Say what you want, but UGA has been more strict on disciplinary enforcement than any other program in the SEC, especially when it comes to drug or alcohol-related incidents, and that hasn't changed since Kirby's arrival. That said, Jayson Stanley was the driver, so I'd expect his punishment to be worse since it involves DUI.

Mark Richt had a bunch of 8 win seasons with similar talent. The difference in coaching at Miami and Georgia showed Saturday night. Those are facts too
Totally different situations...Your thinking is what drives this board...Everyone is either one sided and OR short sighted.

UGA has talent behind Patrick. They can afford to remove him from the roster. Must be nice.

No he didn't. Richt had four 8-win seasons at Georgia, vs. ten 10-win season.

Should we put him on Mount Rushmore for that? Richt had Stafford, Moreno, AJ Green, Thomas Davis and a ton of other NFL talent.

Smart has done in less than 2 years what Richt couldn’t do in 15, which is get Georgia in position to win a national title. Give credit where credit is due.

Richt could not win the big game. Still can’t.

You mean if I don’t share YOUR view then I am either one sided or short sided.

If he was so awesome why did Georgia fire him. Ask Georgia fans if they regret it. He did some good but an 8 year old could coach Georgia to 8 wins. Big deal. With their money, talent and resources they should win 8 in a bad year.

So I guess you're saying that CMR is a poor coach given he had a team chock-full of talent that he couldn't win with? CMR averaged a meager 9-4 record yearly (basically Jim Donnan part II) over his last 7 years at UGA and had a horrid record against ranked teams over that time...something like 13-29. Smart, meanwhile, has taken his team to heights in year 2 that CMR never did in 15 years. Let's not forget that yes, UGA had talent at the skill positions, but as typical for CMR the DL and especially OL was in really, really bad shape.

Oh, as for Patrick, he's all but gone. Smart is just getting all the details of the arrest, and he was on his last straw after his previous arrest. BTW, FWIW Patrick was arrested for something that is completely legal in quite a few states; let's not act as if he committed an actual crime against someone else.

Right. UGA has THE strictest drug enforcement policy in the SEC...go look it up if you don't believe me. After your 2nd offense you are gone 4 games. After 3 its a year suspension followed by expulsion. Hell, some SEC schools have no punishment even after your third offense, whereas here you are almost certainly kicked off the team.

Sure helped ole Kirby that the SEC East was in shambles this year. Let him win it once Mullen has UF back on track and we'll anoint him the King of College Coaches. Heck last year he let a very bad UF team win the division with absolutely no offense to speak of. Sure he won the SEC championship game this year after Auburn had multiple injuries to deal with, specifically losing two defensive backs, a defensive lineman and the best offensive player in the conference playing with his arm in a sling. Easy to be the tallest midget this year in the SEC East.

Should we put him on Mount Rushmore? No. Should we accurately describe what he did? Yes. Your characterization that that all Richt did was win 8 games a year is simply inaccurate.

Regarding your second point, that's not completely accurate. In Smart's 2nd season, he has Georgia 12-1 SEC champs, and #3 in the CFP. In Richt's 2nd season (2002), Georgia was 12-1 SEC champs, and #3 in the BCS. Identical results. The difference is, Smart is helped by the CFP taking 4 teams, as opposed to the BCS only taking two.

There is a reason we chose Kirby over Mullen. Good coach. But he's no KS.

Yes it was, and UGA with Kirby in charge left no doubt who was on top did he? Is it Kirby's fault Gus run their back to death, and he was broken by the time the championship game rolled around? I'll help with that one, no it isn't. AU did lose some guys against us, again is that Kirby's fault their conditioning program didn't have them ready to play. If the refs hadn't did their part to keep the game competitive in would have been 45-0. Hurts you to think Kirby and staff made adjustments, put together a great gameplan and the players executed it on both sides of the ball, and they made adjustments. Once again Fromm show everyone he could pass, just doesn't have to.

You must really be raw Kirby left Carolina at the alter., otherwise you could see UGA now is nothing like UGA under Richt, we are physical and pound teams, Richt never had a team do that, it was always UGA players limping off the field.
