Boy, that is a good series. My childhood hero was always Jessie James, at least in the movies. But, the real Jesse James according to Fox, was not the robin hood as portrayed in the movies. But, he still remains my favorite outlaw of the Old West, regardless of the real person he actually was.

My hero's would be the sheriffs of the old west towns who for little money, tried to arrest the cold blooded mass murdering killers like Jesse James

Jesse James does not equal Charles Manson, in no way. Yes, Jesse was an outlaw but he believed in what he was doing was right and of course it was not right. But, the things Jesse did was inbred in him from a very early age. The men that fought for the Confederacy believed their domains were being invaded by foreigners (in a sense). If you watched the particular series about Jesse, you know that Union soldiers drug out his family and tortured his step father until he told where Jesse's bother Frank was hiding. So, if someone had done to my family what they did to Jesse's family I could full well, understand his attitude. Now, no one did to Charles Manson and/or his family what the Union soldiers and Pinkertons did to Jesse's family.

So James believed in what he was doing when he murdered INNOCENT people.. sounds about the same as any mass murderer of innocent people...

The outlaws in the old west were not comic book villains they murdered REAL innocent people.

I'm an avid 22 hour a day Fox Fan but I really don't care for the big (whore) heroreilly...he disgusts me. To your point, however, AHC did a series of one hour each on the West's baddest gunsligers (both good and bad). It was a much more (seemingly) historic portrayal without the thoughts of Oreilly interspersed. My guess is that the AHC thing was done in the past but I enjoyed it and really after 15 minutes of the Oreilly thing I turned it off. Go for the other portrayal.

James was no Manson type killer. He was a product of the Kansas-Missouri border wars, no more no less. Some people believe the history they read in comic books, others take the time to study it.

So the excuse for killing innocent people, was because he "was a product of the borders wars"..

gotcha

Manson and James, for sure had ONE big thing in common.... they murdered INNOCENT people., that is for sure!

Eye for an eye was the law then. Especially when there was no law. Your eastern civilized/PC view carried no weight west of the river in the 1870's.

No law, huh, ok....missed that one

You can slice it, you can dice it ... you can take the long way or the short cut... the bottom line is Jesse James and the other outlaws then, were no different than today's murdering thugs who kill INNOCENT people, period.

Many of the law men in those days you consider your heroes murdered innocent people, too. Wyatt and his worthless bothers shot and killed at least one guy that was unarmed at the OK Coral. Plain and simple murder, the man told Wyatt Earp that he was unarmed and Earp would not let him out of the gun fight. Doc Holliday was another sorry piece of crap that was suppose to be a law man and shot and killed innocent men. So, the so called heroes in your scenario were no better than Jesse.

Ok, you win....bye bye

Bosox, how old are you? and I'm not trying to be confrontational. Even as late as the 1920s and 30s we were all on the frontier as far as personal and family violence. The thug of today is much different than the killer of a century ago. Sure, dead is dead but life was much cheaper back then and got much cheaper the further you go back in history...hence the ISIS killing spree sponsored by the 8th century moors

Bingo! This describes it in a nut shell. A different time and place where things were settled in a different way.

Supposedly Jessie once robbed the bank at Smyrna, SC.
