OT: best place to eat in Charleston?

Hall's Chophouse is my favorite restaurant in Charleston, but there are so many great ones to choose from. Other great restaurants include The Ordinary, FIG, McCrady's, and the Macintosh.

depends of your budget, occasion and area of town you are in.
I'd be glad to assist.
I've worked in the business for twenty years...and still here!

Hymans is easily the best. No doubt about it. Just ask all of the celebrity tourists.

One can get some nice t-shirts from Hyman's to wear and make all their friends jealous when they return to Ohio.

Halls Chophouse, Hanks, 82 Queen, Cypress, Cirrca 1886, Husk, Peninsula Grill, Amen Street, SNOB, Pearl's is good happy hour and oysters to name just a few. Pavilion Roof Top bar for great sunset views. Shem Creek has a new restaurant, Tavern and Table. Good view and water sunset views.

not that my opinion is better because I was born and raised in Charleston but here's a list of some really, really good gems that's just as good as the above mentioned restaurants and they don't cost as much.

Downtown:

http://www.82queen.com/
http://crucafe.com/

Seafood:

A little more pricey;
anything in the Maverick group is good ( High Cotton, Slightly North Of Broad aka SNOB, Post House)

Mt. Pleasant
Seafood;

Rooftop Bar:

Better make a reservation on Open Table well before your arrival date -- not many places have seats available if you just walk in.

You guys are starting to piss me off. I love Hyman's . They sell t-shirts? Crap, I missed that.

I've eaten at most of the ones listed but I'd recommend the Charleston Grill.

Fantastic food and service but pricey.

Another hole in the wall, The Wreck near Shem Creek.

If you want casual and beer. Poe's and Home Team BBQ on Sully's Island.

Circa 1886 is great to take a date or your wife to. It is very romantic. Small, easy parking at a Doctor's office across the street. White table cloths, intimate booths. Nice menu, but not what I would call Charlestonian food. Would recommend Hominy Grill if you want something southern. Also would suggest reservations anywhere decent you go.

Thanks for the tip re: 'other foods'. I was 'bon and razed' on 'Chas-ton' food. I prefer taking my wife to a nice, quiet, 'ambiant'. restaurant in the Holy City for French, Continental or Italian food.

Hate to say it, but Poogans Porch has been a disappointment both times I have been. 82 Queen is very good, as all the rest of the places mentioned.

well, recuuuuse me...

live near and have the good fortune of frequently dining at many of the places mentioned

many are really, really good, depending on your preference[/B]; a veritable unlimited choice of cuisines, etc.

some cited here are pure tourist joints, but possibly / probably vastly superior to small town or state capital type options

it is well known that crap / mediocre restaurants have a very short shelf life here

not a chain joint town, unless you're spending the weekend at the outlet mall, west ashtray, north chuck, etc., etc.

kindly leave a respectable gratuity

ya'll come back now...

ya hear?

Husk, Ansons, or Peninsula Grill for upscale. Best brunch- Eli's Table. Best dive joint for lunch - Tatooed Moose of Juanita Greenbergs. Best BBQ- Home Team.
