OT GoDaddy Pulls Controversial Puppy Commercial From Super Bowl

What is controversial about this exactly?? Lol. People can be pretty uptight sometimes...

I find this commercial mean spirited and not funny. Whoever at

GoDaddy or their advertising agency thought this was a good idea in the first place should be fired.

It is not controversial but cynical. It does nothing to endear the consume

to GoDaddy and thus is not an effective ad. Whoever at GoDaddy or their advertising agency thought this was a good idea was clueless.

How about the careless mistreatment of the animals in the truck? Maybe that's why it was pulled.

An article I read said most people opposed the ad because they

felt it promoted "puppy mills" that sold puppies online with little regard for the welfare of the puppies.

It's a commercial... I don't about you, but I see animals in the truck all the time...

Flip side shows what happens when you put an animals in the back of the truck, will make people think...

Where's your funny bone ???

I dont really find a ton of humor in it really - bottom line is I wouldnt care if they showed it personally but I dont think it'd have a positive impact for GoDaddy if they did

The ad has a creepy-like ending when the cute little puppy finds his/her home. Sickening. Reminds me of that 'Twilight
Zone' episode, 'The Cookbook'

I think this a great and funny commercial. People are just over reacting for nothing...

How many bad commercials are shown during the Super Bowl Sunday...
America IS becoming a wimpy nation but this commercial is dumber than Lindsay Lohan.

For all those calling for the "ad guy's job" ever consider this was all part of the "plan".....I mean bottom line an "ad guy's" job is to reach as many people as possible and generate conversation about a product/company.....Not saying I particularly liked or disliked the ad --just saying maybe Go Daddy is smarter than most people think...

I thought it was a humorous ad to be honest, though it has so little to do with GoDaddy that it's kind of stupid.

Also, Americans love animals (dogs specifically) so much that this was sure to spark controversy from everyone.

And if it was a cat/kitten instead of puppy... No one would be over reacting about that ad...

You are right... SB ads are supposed to generate conversation, good or bad....

They have already pulled the ad from the Super Bowl. In this day

of political correctness, it is not necessarily true that even bad publicity is good publicity.

As pointed out, the whole purpose of a commercial is to keep the content on everyone's mind by talking about, but there are good ways and bad ways to go about it. I think this commercial is in bad taste myself, but maybe I'm biased because I love pups. I think people who ride around with dogs in the back of the truck (that are unrestrained) are being irresponsible pet owners. Furthermore, I'm pretty certain that any dog that gets bounced out of a truck going above 15mph and lands on pavement (or any hard packed surface) is almost certain to sustain some injuries, or maybe worse.

As an aside, I remember driving down a primary hwy once and getting behind a pick up truck with a dog in the back. There was a tool box across the bed, and there was a big german shepherd on the tool box! And it was constantly pacing back & forth from side to side (unrestrained too) on top of the box while the truck was going down the road at 55mph!! Just unbelievable. I bet the driver probably thought it was cool though.

i think they did it on purpose and absolutely knew the controversy it would cause......like they care now......theyve already got more exposure from it now then they ever would airing it during the superbowl

When you sell to the masses, you can not afford to make any section of them mad! There are about 50% of those in America that love animals, this commercial was in bad taste for that many people. It is a good thing they pulled it before it backfired on them, you can not make that many customers upset over a something they feel is bad taste. There is too much competition for business for such ads. I am surprised that a company as big as Go Daddy would not have looked further into this thing before they wasted their money making it. Saturday Night, it would have gone over big, but not the Super Bowl where families would be watching this ad.

Bill O'Reilly said tonight on his show, that Go Daddy knew the commerical was going to get pulled when it was made. O'Reilly said, the reason for them making the commerical was that programs like his would run the commerical free and Go Daddy knew that.

The reason for the theory is because Go Daddy has another commerical ready to go. They say it is impossilbe to make another commerical within 24 hours and the above reason is why they made the first commerical knowing it was going to be pulled and hence, they would get the free advertisement and had another commerical ready.

Horrible commercial. I absolutely love dogs and puppies are the cutest animals on the face of the earth. Just showed my dog the ad because he's in my lap right now, and he then flipped it the bird.

Whoever wrote the commercial was trying to copy the Budweiser commercial and didn't think it through. I thought it was ok...tugged at heartstrings but not funny. 2 Things in an Ad....use animals...have a happy ending...usually works. I',m x-agency and ad mgmt. I did think the pup getting bounced out of the truck with no damage wasn't believable....but it's an ad...c'mon.

I would be over reacting as a cat lover. If someone wants to find out for sure if there is life after death, which I truly believe there is, mess with my cat and they will find out for sure.

I see dogs and people riding in the back of pick up trucks all the time. I've done it. What's the big deal? It's not safe? So what? It's fun.

Guess I'm bass ackwards because I thought, if anything, it is making the people who raise pets for money look bad.

I have held my tongue on this topic for years....

The obsession with pets/animals in this country is almost as bad as the political animosity today. It is a commercial. I have WAY too much interactions (crazy family members) with the kind of people who go nuts over these commercials and topics. All I hear about is pet adoption and animal cruelty. OK. I get it. You want every dog and cat to be loved like a child (direct quote from some - not all). Got it. I love dogs as much as the next person. Now please let me watch unique and humorous attempts at commercials instead of the same ol' boring ones. Please stop the over reaction. Otherwise we will get stuck with a run of Cialis and vaginal mesh lawsuit commercials. Yuck.

Now as for me, I would love for the media and some of these folks to feel the same way about child abuse and neglect as well as child adoption or fostering children. But for the most part the people I have had direct conversations with, nope. They are not having it and they for the most part don't care. A lot of these folks would rather play those fricking annoying Sara McLaclan commercials all day.

I am an animal lover like Patrice O'neal.

Or enjoy this little tidbit. I am aware it is not real.

Whew. That was cathartic. Thanks

I have not read anything about this beyond this post, but I have the sinking suspicion that it was pulled by GoDaddy because it wasn't very good. That's some of the most premium (the most?) ad time on TV!

Ineffective commercial - that's the best they could do? They really should have more compassion. Puppy mills are absolutely evil.
