OT: looks like Pete Rose can kiss goodbye to any chance

Good. Listened to him several years in a row lying and then trying to admit just a little more every year. He kept hoping he'd reach the threshold of truth that would allow him in to the Hall instead of just coming clean.

Exactly. That's the feeling I always got, as well. He was just testing the water to see what was the bare minimum he could confess to and get some sort of forgiveness.

Here's the only surpirse here: Was anyone truly surprised? Pete hasn't told the truth about his gambling, even today. Did anyone truly believe that he suddenly developed the gambling habit once he became manager? If anything, you have less time on your hands once you become a manager. Please.

And now the irony of it all: the man lied, he still lies, and all of his betting was in direct contravention with baseball's rules. Yet, I still let him be eligible for the Hall. Come on, lack of character notwithstanding, he is the hits leader. Put a note in there that he was a lying SOB; even he'd admit that, so I doubt he'd mind.

PS: this from a Bud Harrelson fan in '73, the 130 pounder whom Pete steamrolled with a cheap shot in the NL playoffs. Never liked him since, but the guy could hit.

PSS: Let Shoeless Joe in, for the love of God!

The rule is "declared permanently ineligible" and there is no asterisk to the rule. He knew the rule and broke it. It doesn't matter how good he could hit.

When are the steroid freeks of Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire eligible for the HOF? Didn't they lie about their use? They probably wouldn't have hit all those home runs if they didn't juice up.

They are eligible now. McGuire won't get in nor will Palmeiro. Bonds and Clemens will eventually get in as some will rationalize their careers were Hall worthy before the steriods. But that may be it for that era.

I don't think any of those guys go, to tell you the truth. Somewhere along the line, the committee ceased only caring about what guys have done on the field, and now see things as not only greatness as a player, but also a gentleman off the field. If it'd always been that way, many of the old school guys wouldn't be in.

Of reinstatement or the hall of fame. Lies on top of lies to cover more lies.

I don't really care for him as a person, I remember back when his hitting streak was broken by the Braves and him whining in the postgame that the pitcher didn't give him anything he could drive on his last at bat. It is and always has been, at least I thought so, the pitcher's job was to get him out, not throw him something to extend his hitting streak.

But with that being said, I don't think I ever seen anyone play any harder than he did, he bet on games, unless something new is out there he always bet to win. To me, that is no worse than what all the guys who set records and likely to be inducted into the Hall at some point. But my opinion on the matter means about the same as my dog's on it.

I get it grumpy. I didn't get excited at A-ROD'S 3,000th the other day. Pro baseball lost its luster for me a long time ago. As a matter of fact, the only pro sport I still support is hockey. Pro athletes are disgusting to me. But especially cheaters and liars. Rose is both. JMO

Good memory. I don't remember the starter but the final AB was against Gene Garber and he struck him out on that funky change on his. Garber jumped up and down and Rose got pissed at him for it.

Rose said Garber was pitching like it was the 7th game of the World Series. When Garber heard that, he said Rose was trying to hit like it was.

lol, not as good as your's thats for sure. I couldn't remember who the pitcher was, I do remember him celebrating like he just won a playoff game and Rose complaining about getting that pitch. If I were forced to have named someone I would have went with Neikro, but I am sure you are right because I remember everything but the name of the pitcher.

Pete Rose is a scumbag. He has always believed he was above the game and I am ecstatic to see that he has ruined any chance of ever getting in the hall of fame. Pretty damn sad that both the all time hits leader and the all time home run leader are liars and cheats. Personally, I think they should blot bonds and rose out of the record books and recognize Aaron and Cobb as the record setters. Rot in hell Pete. You suck... . .

If he wanted to be in the HOF he should have made a different decision. He knew the rule and broke it anyway!

He got caught, he lied....He wanted in so he lied a little less.....He still wants in so he is lying even less....

Sorry but making it to the HOF should mean something and so should what it takes to get there.
