One of my favorites. Wish him the best.

Hey out there,

I celebrated my 70th birthday in October and realized that I’ve spent my whole writing life trying to find out who I am and I don’t believe I’ve even come close. It was in Beaufort in sight of a river’s sinuous turn, and the movements of its dolphin-proud tides that I began to discover myself and where my life began at fifteen.

I have recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With the help of the wonderful people at M.D. Anderson I intend to fight it hard. I am grateful to all my beloved readers, my friends and my family for their prayers. I owe you a novel and I intend to deliver it.

Much love,
Pat Conroy

Second person this week I know of who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At least Conroy has had an illustrious life. The other is only 37 and just had his first child last fall.

He may be the youngest person I ever heard of to develop pancreatic cancer. Sad, sad, sad. May God be with him.

This makes me very sad. Mr. Conroy is the one person that leaves me completely "star struck" when I'm near him. I was standing next to him at the Citadel game when he was inducted into the HoF, and I was literally at a loss for words.

Loved The Great Santini when I was a kid and the movie is still one of my faves (most of Robert Duvall's movies are though). Best of luck to him. That's a tough one to beat.

The Great Santini was awesome, but The Prince of Tides tells the story of quite a few of us.

Just sayin. Read into it what you will...

Knew him when I lived in Beaufort before he became famous. He was a school teacher.

My friend in N. Myrtle Beach found his has pancreatic cancer this week. He is in 60 yr. range.
