Anyone ever watched that series? I happened to come across a You Tube of a scene from Spartacus a couple of days ago. And I can tell you that was the most grotesque, gory, violent show, movie that I have ever seen. The particular scene I saw showed a women decapitating a man. I know some bad a$$ dudes that won't watch that series.

Gross is not the word!!!!!

I don't remember it too well. It might be a decent show, and I like that kind of shock entertainment so long as it is artfully done, but I didn't get far in the first episode either. Way too gratuitous. Seems like it they were trying too hard to make a point right off that bat that this show is about sex and horrific violence instead of just letting it naturally happen throughout the story. My memory may be bad here, but that is how I remember that going.

I watched all three seasons. I thought it was actually pretty good, great story arc, and the over-all theme (oppressed peoples rising up against their evil oppressors) was great. Some great action scenes, no worse sex or violence-wise than your garden variety HBO or Showtime series. You do have to get past having to look at a pretty disconcerting amount of "man-ass", but if you can do that it was worth the investment IMO.

Based on the small 10 minute clip from You Tube I just don't think I could enjoy it because the violence was way, too, graphic. But again I only saw a small 10 minute clip. And I don't watch a lot of movies/shows that are very violent these days, maybe I am just getting, too, soft in my old age. LOL!

This was a series right after another Roman based gladiator theme. It is filled with bad language, super violent scenes and very graphic sexual content. If you can get past that you might like it.

The first season, or maybe the first two, with the original "Spartacus" actor was better than the following seasons. He died suddenly from cancer or something. But a LOT of violence and a LOT of sex and a LOT of nudity. It was the closest thing to and X-rated TV series I have seen. I disagree with the poster that said it was just like any other series on HBO or Showtime. I haven't seen them all, but I've never seen a series with more sex and violence. And it was graphic sex and graphic violence. But I thought the writing and the story line were very good. If you can acclimate yourself to the sex and violence, it was a very good show.

What was the other Roman based gladiator theme series that preceded Spartacus?

I can watch and enjoy Spartacus and Vikiigs, but I can not make myself watch a Nam war movie.

Rome. It's not even similar to Spartacus. Both are good in their own right.
