this. True Detective wasn't really even a television show, it was more a blockbuster suspense thriller movie, 6 hours long and broken up into 1 hour segments. I thought it was a truly unique, one-of-a-kind show that would never be repeated, topping it will be nearly impossible.
True Detective was awesome but does anyone here feel like they walked away from it needing more answers? I know I, and many others I talked to, felt that way.
All true. But the great thing about starting fresh with a new cast and new story each year is that the series and characters won't grow stale. Perhaps season 2 won't be as mesmerizing as season 1. But it still might be pretty freaking good and there's always the chance that season 3 will be better than both of the previous ones. The possibilities for each season are endless. Personally, I'd love to see what the creators of True Detective could do with Pavel Kohut's book The Widow Killer about two detectives tracking a serial killer through the streets of Prague in the last months of the Third Reich.
It was always intended to be a series but with the characters, locations, and plot changing each season.
