Hi guys and gals,

I have seen several threads in the past regarding the authentic (Gamecock) garnet color for painting walls, and was wondering if y'all could point me in the right direction.

Details:
The paint must be flat or "matte" to reduce reflective issues for the projector.

I'd really like it to be true garnet (obviously), without appearing "red" or "maroon."

Lastly, I'm on a budget so if I can get the paint in a cheaper brand or from a store that is less expensive, that would be ideal.

Thanks very much guys! Go Cocks!

I painted my bonus room garnet and black. I got the paint from Home Depot a few years back. They have most colleges colors available. It looked great!

Might want to check out a satin. It'll be easier to clean than flat. Maybe get a sample? I wouldn't skimp on the type of paint though. You're going to get what you pay for. I'd suggest Sherwin Williams Showcase with a satin finish. It's like middle of the road but it's a quality paint. You can get it at Lowe's.

Why don't you guys buy your paint from the Official Paint Supplier of USC Athletics? Just sayin'.

The Garnet Color that USC uses is different for their Exterior and Interior Uses. They only use the Pantone (PMS Color Code) color description for ink/print. The interior color used in Williams-Brice and surrounding is called "Fine Wine". Alot of folks think its not "red" enough.......but that is EXACTLY the color they use all the time. It looks really good in environments with flourescent lighting. The exterior color is a special mix called "Garnet #3". The color formula is available from Sherwin-Williams, Store #2306, located at 2529 Forest Drive in Columbia. They provide the paint to Athletics. Your local Sherwin-Williams store can call them to get the correct formula. Their phone number is 803-256-3427. Ask for Rich, Josh or Sean.

Just wanted to set the record straight. LOL

This. Due to it not being red enough, we went with velvet red.

Hard to argue with Sherwin Williams on this subject!

Yep. Quality paint is worth the extra money. I have been happy with Benjamin Moore paint, but maybe just for the molding because of the cost.

Benjamin Moore has a paint called 'Raspberry Truffle' that works for me.
Sorry, don't paint enough to tell you the code # for that color.

beckham was dead on on this one. Bought "fine wine" from my local Sherwin-Williams and it looks good, but it's a bit dark. Wish I would've gotten the velvet red but it's not bad at all. Matches my vintage lamp with a 90's Gamecock helmet as the base. Thanks to all for the advice, just wanted to let y'all know the results. Go Cocks.

SW is expensive though, FYI.

Go to Sherwin Williams, have them to call the Sherwin Williams in Union to get the mixture formula. I painted my office a couple of years ago and was told by a friend of mine that USC Union had recently repainted their offices and gotten the paint from there. I drove the hour to Union to talk to the folks at SW myself...glad I did. I had bought standards paint samples at SW, Lowe's, and Home Depot and none matched. The custom mix from SW did.

My whole master bedroom is Garnet and Black with Gamecock stuff hanging everywhere. I still can't believe my wife allowed me to do this. She was 100 percent for it. We live in an older style home so the bedroom walls are Garnet with the door frames and base boards black. Have a Huge outdoor Gamecock flag on the wall above our bed.

+1 for Home Depot. They have all D-1 team colors and you can get any finish you want. Like stated above satin would be a whole lot easier to clean, if ever needed, than flat.
