Usually get our mail around 4:00PM everyday. If we are lucky, a second truck will deliver again around 7:30PM.

How in the world do they justify two different trucks delivering to the same mailbox in a day?

I was reading a post yesterday about lexington needing help badly.from what I get out of the post the main issues are,it’s part time and no benefits.so when they get done with their normal route, they got back and do part of another.

I guess that's like mailing a letter to Philadelphia on a two day delivery and 8 days later it's still not there.

Very few could handle that today. If you mailbox is blocked occasionally they don't deliver because they don't have to get out of their truck. Lazy ass people!
Ain't that the truth. When I was in construction, a lot of homes were built in cul-de-sacs. When you had a bunch of subs on the job, it was hard not to block mailboxes... especally when delivering materials. More than once I was given a lecture on parking near one by a mail carrier with an attitude. Ive seen them not deliver mail. That said, like anything, you've got the lazy and the not so lazy. But I dont think they use the slogan "...through rain, snow, sleet or hail..." anymore.

You guys are brings back some serious memories. My father used to tell me stories about his mail-carrying days back in Spartanburg. He used to talk about one of his worst routes being over in Park Hill on Crescent Ave. The hills were horrible. This was when you didn't have mail boxes and had to take to mail up to the door.

The USPS suffers from the same thing as everyone else as far as labor. The main problem today is no pride in a job well done. Even with less snail mail they struggle. There is no way you could get someone to carry a heavy mail bag on a route today. Also, they should be charging more to deliver packages from FedEx and UPS, or make them deliver them themselves. I guess they need the business, but if you're losing money on every package delivered, what's the sense?

Lots of items bought are shipped by USPS. But unlike Fed Ex or UPS they don’t really care if it makes it to your door. You see they know how to take the order. They just don’t know how to deliver the order.

I once had a red letter in our work mailbox telling me “we’re sorry we missed you”. It was for a fishing rod that we all know will not fit in a mailbox. It states they attempted to deliver but we weren’t there. Well after reviewing the security film it was obvious they never pulled up to the gate or anything. Just stuck the note in the box and left.
Had to drive to the Post Office to pick it up. I asked the guy why in the hell are they in the shipping business if they won’t deliver the shipment. He said if I had a red letter that they tried. After I explained to him the security camera he had nothing else to say.

If the USPS had to actually compete on a level playing field with fedex and ups, they would be out of business in 6 months.
In todays world we dont need mail but every other day. If you need next day delivery pay fedex or ups.
Just more government waste.
Except UPS and fedex both partner with the USPS to deliver package because of the usps capabilities…

I wouldn’t won’t the job.About a month ago I had to go get a tire fixed.in the stall next to me was a mail van .I started talking to the lady and said they needed help.the roads make it harder for them as being in bad shape.getting their vehicle scratched up etc.the better route is in town or subdivision.just like others have said, the full time employees gets the perks.the ones part time gets nothing really.

I wonder if you would say that to the postal driver who was hospitalized this week by the Clemson thug. You have no clue how demanding it is nowadays to deliver the mail.

In some places they still have walking mail carriers. The residential and some business areas in downtown Greer still do and, yes, they deliver to your door. I also believe that Converse Heights in Spartanburg does....they did the last time one of my friends lived there.

In Bluffton/Hilton Head we don't have USPS mail carriers....we have private contract mail carriers....they aren't worth a crap and forget complaining to the owner of the business. Several years ago they found a dumpster filled with mail that one of the contract carriers simply dumped because they didn't want to deliver it. Oh, and the weekly mail swaps on Friday....where the neighbors exchange misdelivered mail....it is a weekly event. Give me the USPS mail carriers any day.

Agree. Also I don’t need Saturday mail delivery. Who wants to get a bill on Saturday?

I would pray for their recovery. I am also friends with several postal workers who agree with me on the work ethics of fellow postal employees. Two of which retired this year because they were fed up with it. The other 2 go out of their way to get mail in your box. They don't hide behind the union rules "I don't have to get out of my seat" to deliver mail.
Again, I wish all postal workers had the work ethic of those in past years.

What percentage of Mail is delivered by carriers in the US? I would guess it would be a small percentage and only in the small towns like you mentioned. Private contract mail carriers can be fired if not performing, so why would Bluffton/ Hilton Head put up with poor service? Fire them and hire another. That's something you can't do with the government employees, who are rarely held accountable. I get the wrong mail from the USPS about twice a week on average, and have to go down the block and get my mail and take my neighbor his mail. Ever heard of mail in dumpsters and ditches and all kinds of places courtesy of the USPS? We all have heard the stories, not to mention the USPS is responsible for the phrase "GOING POSTAL", which doesn't inspire confidence.

Have no clue what the percentage is. I do know that a couple of suburbs outside of Dayton Ohio also had walking mail carriers that delivered mail to your door and as far as I know they still do. Regardless, my point was they do exist.

You are correct that the USPS can cancel the contract of a third party mail carrier service IF there is another third party service in the area. Problem is that there isn't another one incurring the adminstrative, staffing, training, etc. costs and waiting for that contract to come up for bid....and this area simply isn't that large to have several competing carrier services. No, I've never heard any stories regarding USPS mail carriers dumping mail in dumpsters....especially stamped mail which is what happened in Bluffton/HHI.

Haven't heard "GOING POSTAL" in at least 15-20 years.

Try and get a job there if you are white. Just saying.
That’s has nothing to do with it. If you ever worked there or knew someone that did it is actually try getting a job there if you’re not former military willing to join the union. The USPS struggles based on being tied to a workforce with no incentive to work because they have other government disability checks or benefits to fall back on along with a union that constantly reminds them how bad it would look to displace a “disabled” veteran.

That said I have never had the USPS lose a package. There may have been one day delays from time to time but even those are rare based on tracking services. FedEx on the other hand routinely misses dates at best if they don’t lose the package. We’ve stopped trying to order from Walmart because it was at best 50/50 if FedEx would get the stuff to us.

I've had the above happen to me. I also had a mail carrier to tell me the height of my mail box wasn't the right height. And one, bless his heart, tell me that there was a small nest of bees on the mail box post. The nest was located at the bottom of the post, it would have been highly unlikely for him to have gotten stung by the bees due to their location.

All you have to do is Google it and it will show you several videos of it happening. Yes it is an old term, hell I am old, but most people know what it means. Point taken on carriers exist but most people will never see one.

In the region where I reside at, i would say the mailbox is physically attached to the house. My guess is why there is no mailbox at the edge of the yard is maybe the risk of a snowplow accidently knocking the mailbox down during the snowy season. The USPS here delivery mail in some very cold weather. There are a few times out of the year where day time temperature is no higher than -10 F and they are out there walking from house to house delivering mail

As far as I know, I have only had one package that was never delivered. I think it was lost at either USPS distribution center Chicago or San Francisco. Other then that, my mail has always ended up at my mailbox or door entrance. My opinion, the USPS gets the same kind of myths like the commercial airlines do as far as losing stuff. I have been on many flights and never had my check-in baggage lost.

Yeah I get the wrong mail like once a year. Hard to believe it’s as common of an occurrence as the other guys mention it happening weekly.

I have 14 steps leading up to my front porch and door. Of the USPS, UPS and FedEx, guess which one tends to leave my packages at the bottom of the steps. Truth be told tho, I dont have a big problem with it yet. Nothing has gotten wet so far. Should be better service tho. I guess if you're going to do something, do it right is not much a govt thing.
I tell what I do have a problem with, getting a slip in my box for a letter I had to sign for saying I wasnt home when I dang sure was and I can pick up the letter at the post office or they can try to deliver it again. That's just doing a lousy job. Weird thing is this kinda stuff seems to always depend on the mood of the carrier on a given day.

I get the wrong mail at least once a month from a similar address that’s across town. I assumed it’s a mistake made by an automated system of some sort. I just drop it back in with the flag up. My concern is whether or not that guy is getting my mail and dropping it back in.
I’ve also had luggage lost that stayed missing for a week and a half. Turned out it was in the office the whole time. So it does happen.

Believe it or not, I don't care. My address is 918 Sugar House Drive, neighbor is 918 Sugar House Boulevard. I am happy you get such great service, after all you are paying a lot for it and they lose money every year.
