Ouch.

"But the real dunce of the game was wide receiver Juice Wells.

Wells dropped an easy touchdown that hit him right in the hands on a red zone trip for Ole Miss, which inevitably led to an empty scoring drive. He dropped another easy screen pass that hit him directly in the hands too. Wells brought in just one of his six targets on the game and was the intended target on both of Jaxson Dart's interceptions.

Wells failed in virtually every aspect of play on the day, so it was only fitting that he was the wide receiver who lost Ole Miss the game on their final drive. Wells was supposed to run an out-and-up, but decided to cut it off short, leading to the game-sealing interception (as you can see in the post below)."

We managed to get by just fine without Juice and Mario. We could have used Juice, but Mario would have been a part time player on this team.
Agree. Overall I'm pleased with the progression of the receiving corps. Simon has been the top target at TE but Harbor is picking up the offense and becoming a threat and Campbell has had some big moments. Brown and Mazeo have been reliable too. Regarding Wells, he was an asset when he was healthy. I'll leave it at that.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. He quit on us and he quit on that route that he was running.

I’ll never understand why he decided to transfer to Memphis. He had an incredible upside staying at Carolina. I can only surmise he saw a bigger NIL payoff at Memphis.

Was he told we were bringing in someone that would push him to the bench? I thought i recalled it was something like that.

Anderson left because of money and we didn't move on Sanders until A's departure.

While in the portal, Anderson had offers from USC-W and Oklahoma but chose Memphis for the biggest bounty.

He was part of the FEDEX NIL deal and a Leaf trading card deal.

In addition, he was allowed to charge for personal appearances around the Memphis area.

Makes sense….perhaps he knew Rocket Sanders was coming in via the portal.

I thought Rocket came later, but just going off memory.

Someone had the comment that he was not an SEC level back, and he was told his role would be diminished. But with all things NIL related, it's unverified rumor.

Regarding new Portal transfers: I like EDGE Jaylen Brown from Missouri, a quality defensive pickup. He was the number 129th ranked player in the 2024 high school class. Offensive Lineman Nick Sharp transferred from Wake Forest where he was a starter. He was ranked the number 28 Interior Offensive Lineman in the Transfer Portal. His Transfer Portal rating is 5.7, which is a high 3 star, thus a good pickup as well.

Thus, it looks like we have gotten off to a good start in the Portal. And that's important since we had good Portal years in the 1st and 3rd years, following them up with nationally-ranked seasons on the field.

Coastal Carolina football coach Tim Beck says,
"You are not building a program anymore. Each year, you just build a team".

This is why what kind of season we have in 2025 will depend on how we do in the Portal.

Thanks for clearing it up.

Agreed, a very good start. Buying a guy from Wake is one thing, but our NIL is a lot stronger then I was led to believe if we're outbidding Missouri for players now.
