Well. That's a pretty rude and arrogant thing to say. and speaking of bailouts what happens when we get hit with hurricanes? Last I checked the fed. Came in to help with the costs and relief. You might also want to look up which states put in more than they take from the federal bank account. SC gets more than we give.Originally posted by jojousc1967:
They have to over hype the event to get the rude, arrogant, and pushy yankees to take heed to the weather warnings. If not they will start whinning and want more tax payer money to bail them out of whatever situation they get themselves into. Quiet frankly they could drop a crap storm on them and I would not care.
You do realize that most southern states receive more from taxes than they put in and most northern states put in more than they receive, don't you?Originally posted by jojousc1967:

LOL, that is so funny because I just had that same conversation at work yesterday. We had three of those "Blizzards of the Century" roll through Northern Illinois two years ago. They were about two weeks apart. I love the Midwest, the way of life, and the people, but those blizzards...snowstorms....or whatever you want to call them firmly made up my mind to head back to SC. You can't put the mayor of Peoria on the weather channel to ask him how this is going to affect his city because no one gives a rat's arse. This so-called blizzard is laughable. I would have loved to see someone from the weather channel standing in my front yard two years ago when the wind was blowing 50 miles and hour, snow blowing sideways and couldn't see your hand in front of your face, and the wind chill was 25 below.Originally posted by UpstateGC:
Can't figure that one out. Do you think it might have something to do with the media.
How many "100 Year Blizzards" can the Northeast have?

You're right, this storm has seemed to live-up to it's hype so far. I guess it'll take about 3-4 days (or maybe a week) to evaluate the significant damage and toll. Hopefully, the sensationalized political and media warnings have saved some lives for the stupid, the elderly and the vulnerable. Results leading to flooding seems to be the worst scenario, IMO.Originally posted by mcbear30:
That storm is no joke. NYC is forecast to get a record amount of snowfall (approaching 3 feet) along with 60 mph wind gusts. Not a case of media hype. This event would bring most cities used to winter weather to its knees.
Maybe so. But it's not because of me. I just got off work.Originally posted by cockhornleghorn:

Close to a foot of snow here in the Iowa City area in the past 16 hours. Some of us transplanted southernern have learned to handle it. A good snowblower and a teenage son helps. Just part of life here.
