Can't figure that one out. Do you think it might have something to do with the media.

How many "100 Year Blizzards" can the Northeast have?

It's a conspiracy! It's just New Yorkers trying to sound tough!

Actually it's because of a weather pattern off the coast that will basically make the storm hitting the Northeast into a snow hurricane. They're going to get it a lot worse than the midwest (where the weather patterns are just blowing through instead of hitting another weather pattern that only makes it stronger).

They have to over hype the event to get the rude, arrogant, and pushy yankees to take heed to the weather warnings. If not they will start whinning and want more tax payer money to bail them out of whatever situation they get themselves into. Quiet frankly they could drop a crap storm on them and I would not care.

I don't know how many people on this board have ever experienced a snow storm measured in FEET and not inches, but believe me it is a serious event. Glad I'm back in SC and no longer up there. Go Cocks

That storm is no joke. NYC is forecast to get a record amount of snowfall (approaching 3 feet) along with 60 mph wind gusts. Not a case of media hype. This event would bring most cities used to winter weather to its knees.

3 feet of a snow in a 24-48 hour period is a masive blizzard, regardless of where you're from, Toss in 60 mph winds and you may have 4-5 foot snow drifts. No joke and no hype! A storm like this is a crippler even for states that are prepared for winter weather.

Well. That's a pretty rude and arrogant thing to say. and speaking of bailouts what happens when we get hit with hurricanes? Last I checked the fed. Came in to help with the costs and relief. You might also want to look up which states put in more than they take from the federal bank account. SC gets more than we give.

I would say it's because everything is bigger and badder when it affects you, as opposed to someone else. The bulk of the media lives in one of three cities: New York, D.C., or LA. Any serious weather event effecting one of these cities is thus on the level of the Apocalypse (Snowpocalypse?), because it personally effects the people writing about it. It's the same reason the Lakers, the Knicks, and the Yankees get obscene amounts of coverage even in years when they're cellar-dwellers (which is every year for the Knicks), really.

It will be a big storm by east coast standards but remember how much of the media is located in NYC.

You do realize that most southern states receive more from taxes than they put in and most northern states put in more than they receive, don't you?

LOL, that is so funny because I just had that same conversation at work yesterday. We had three of those "Blizzards of the Century" roll through Northern Illinois two years ago. They were about two weeks apart. I love the Midwest, the way of life, and the people, but those blizzards...snowstorms....or whatever you want to call them firmly made up my mind to head back to SC. You can't put the mayor of Peoria on the weather channel to ask him how this is going to affect his city because no one gives a rat's arse. This so-called blizzard is laughable. I would have loved to see someone from the weather channel standing in my front yard two years ago when the wind was blowing 50 miles and hour, snow blowing sideways and couldn't see your hand in front of your face, and the wind chill was 25 below.

Cockhorn, you do realize that the wages in the north about double those in the south, in every catagory.Taxes are based on money earned
and money spent.

Same tough guys that were wrecked by Cat 1 Sandy. I guess we now have a counter for the "you all don't know what cold is" comment from the transplants.

You're right, this storm has seemed to live-up to it's hype so far. I guess it'll take about 3-4 days (or maybe a week) to evaluate the significant damage and toll. Hopefully, the sensationalized political and media warnings have saved some lives for the stupid, the elderly and the vulnerable. Results leading to flooding seems to be the worst scenario, IMO.

Maybe so. But it's not because of me. I just got off work.

You would be much better served if you spoke of something about which you know.

Close to a foot of snow here in the Iowa City area in the past 16 hours. Some of us transplanted southernern have learned to handle it. A good snowblower and a teenage son helps. Just part of life here.
