So I am going to my first game in several years tomorrow night ... what's the parking situation around the ballpark like nowadays?

Anywhere within a short walk that is free or be prepared to pay wherever you go?

Any advice on best places to park or where to avoid?

USC controlled lots $10 close to the stadium. You can find $5 near the stadium (Huger, Chinese restaurant on Blossom). Finally, if the timing is right and the meters are no longer in play for the day, you can park farther into town for free (Pilaski?) for a little walk.
