Just wondering where everyone stands on the public conversations about players hitting the portal for lack of PT.
Personally I hate hearing that if X player doesn’t get some playing time that they will hit the transfer portal. For example; in the poll question about starting QB, several posters said that if Colten Gauthier doesn’t get some reps that he is going to hit the portal. I see this posted about M. Lloyd quite a bit as well. It drives me nuts because there is no logic behind the statement other than the current generation of football players are so entitled that if they don’t get PT in their first real season then they are out of here. I have not found this to be the trend. It’s usually someone wanting to go to a bigger school with more exposure or someone that has been passed up on the depth chart. Some are kids wanting a chance to prove themselves in a different scheme or get closer to home. Some because of coaching situations.
But to outright cry about X player hitting the portal because of not getting enough PT in their first or second year is just wrong.
Speaking of M. Lloyd… doesn’t everyone know by now that he is our best player recruiter and that he hosts many of our top prospects? Dude loves USC and is sold out on making it a better program. Gauthier has real potential and a huge arm. Do you think he came here without the knowledge of Doty and possibly getting a transfer QB?
Let’s quit all the postulating about players transferring until there is valid proof of such. Like them hitting the portal before we give up on them making an impact at the college they chose.
What say you?
