So another Qanon conspiracy theory fell flat yesterday - I won't say which one because I don't want that to be part of this thread. Qanon is now batting .000. Nothing has ever come true or been remotely accurate. But do any of yall know any Qanon followers?

I do and it's shocking. Shocking because these friends of mine have been by all measurements just very intelligent, normal people. Great jobs. Lots of friends. In good relationships. And then this rabbit hole has swallowed their lives. 2020 was a hard year on people, and I suppose many tried to make sense of it - even if what they tried makes no sense. It's a crazy thing to watch though.

I'd be willing to bet Qanon was itself created and maintained by those in the American intelligence agencies to justify further domestic spying and the curtailing of civil liberties. Unfortunately we have a large number of idiots in this country so it doesn't surprise me people took to it.

A lot of people have had a lot of time on their hands in 2020. Many haven't been socializing, so their crazy beliefs aren't challenged. Throw in how internet illiterate some people are and the amount of misinformation, and there you have it. I'll just say that I have seen a lot of people that have previously had no interest in certain issues, become interested in a junk-food form of politics.

I don't know anyone who openly professes to believe Q but I know tons of people who espouse the same dumba** theories. They may not know where they got them, but they believe them. And they are all MAGA. It's insidious. "Some 56% of Republicans believe that QAnon, a far-right conspiracy theory, is mostly or partly true, according to a new Daily Kos/Civiqs poll released Wednesday, a remarkably high number considering many of the outlandish assertions espoused by QAnon supporters." https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommyb...-or-mostly-true-survey-finds/?sh=32aa675c5231

I'm sure there are some are also simply trolls who post the most ridiculous stuff they can and then laugh hysterically when the idiot media reports it as actual news.

The amount of irony in this post is shocking.

I mean, "partly true" is a pretty low bar.

The reflexive insult from someone who swallows everything our government and media tell them. You probably thought Vietnam was good idea, Iraq had WMD's, the Patriot Act was necessary to protect us and anyone who claimed our government was spying on us and collecting our data was a tinfoil loon.

Are they the nut-bunch who say JFK Jr. is still alive, Biden and the Pope have been arrested (and who we see are body doubles), Trump is building a shadow government and will be inaugurated on March 4th as POTUS (oops!!) , etc, etc?? Because my MIL, an otherwise intelligent person, buys into all of that garbage. Out of respect, I simply smile and nod when she's rattling on about it, but my goodness the lunacy.

I mean, you literally just had half the nation believing that our former President was a Russian asset. The media was screaming it 24/7/365. Half the politicians were saying it over and over. The intelligence community KNEW it wasn't true, yet kept leaking lies intentionally, and even lied to the FISA courts to spy.

And half the nation was eating it up, like it was in the Bible. (King James Version. of course)

And you wonder why crazy is the new norm?

Well, it shouldn't surprise anyone, considering the behavior of our government, especially the intelligence communities, and media over the last decade, especially recently.
Here is a link to the most recent domestic terrorism bill being floated by Democrats in Congress, the authors of which have specifically mentioned Qanon as being a domestic terrorist group. Our ruling class wants a domestic war on terrorism and all the excesses that accompany it, so why is it far fetched to consider that they would create a group to achieve that end? The FBI creates terror plots to catch specific individuals thought to be radicalized. The CIA created the Taliban and Al Qaeda by funding the Mujahideen in Afghanistan in the 1980's and other Islamic insurgencies in the Balkans and the Caucasus. Our cozy relationship with the Saudi aristocracy has also fomented terrorism across the Middle East. This wouldn't be the first time the United States created a terrorist group so they could later eliminate it. But posters like Gamecock Lifer think I'm stupid.

The bulk of Americans are probably more moderate than far left or far right. There are fringe groups on both sides that get way too much media. We are in a position now where the progressive left basically has control of the whole government(WH and Congress) and are working to maintain that edge. The Covid bill currently under debate has very little to do with Covid. It is an an amalgam of liberal ideas. They were not the first to invent pork barrel. The republicans are guilty of the same thing. The difference is the manner in which the left has instituted their policies. Biden is a record setting President. More executive orders than any President in history. More EO than his days in office. Fewer (None) press conferences where he took more than one or two questions from favored reporters. Gas is reportedly going to $3 a gallon by Memorial Day. That's almost double what it was last year. I do believe the pandemic drove prices lower.

I believe the democrats will have pushback by the voters inn 2022. America has never been a country of extremes. I think we will come back to center. I hope we do. If not, our country is headed for failure.

I enjoy watching them turn themselves inside out like a pretzel. March 20 is the new date for something big to go down. When March 20 comes & goes there will be a new date, rinse/repeat forever as best I can tell. For many people its just easier & far more comfortable to deny reality than accept they have been hoodwinked. Witness the big lie as a classic example. Rudy G, My Pillow former crackhead & assorted other morons are going to get a chance in court to prove their allegations against Dominion voting systems. Anybody want to bet on Rudy proving his claims? Anybody?

From where I'm sitting, there are millions of lunatic, paranoid, conspiracy theorist nut-cases on the far right who are mostly trumpaholics. There are also millions of lunatic, socialist/communist-leaning, anarchistic nut cases on the far left who want this country to have no rules, laws, or basic morals. Frankly, I'm sick of them both! Trump is, always has been, and always will be an egotistical lunatic who filters every thought and decision through his own best interests. Biden is a morally and intellectually challenged invertebrate who stands for nothing and falls for everything. Guess I'm more to the center, also!

I wish you wouldn't hold back though (tell us how you really feel)....... 😂😂

Who cares about Q? What we need to be focusing on is our Politicians being lined by the Chinese Communists.

Pelosi, Biden, Swallwell and by far

Mitch McConnell! With his relation to Chow, whose father owns a shipping company and she was head of TRANSPORTATION! Talking about conflict of interest! But, ole Mitchs bank account went from 2.5 million to 9.5-29 million!

You do know who appointed her head of Transportation right? The self-proclaimed swamp drainer. BTW it's Chao, not Chow (Chow is the name of puppy food among other things)

I think this is where most people fall on this. I have family members who will repeat some Q things (including one that was all into Pizzagate and another who told me all about Wayfair) but when you ask them about it they will just point to the real extreme things like the lizard people about why they don’t buy into Q.

I do think for most people it starts with the little things (everything is George Soros controlled) and then the more they keep reading these things the worse it gets. I remember having a long conversation about Infowars with my brother-in-law when Alex Jones was banned from Twitter. He kept pitching the “attack on conservatives” but had no idea Jones had been pitching the fake school shooting narratives and actually DMing the parents of victims which is what led to him being removed. It’s a lot of taking a small piece of information and then twisting it because they know people won’t bother to look into anything if what they read makes them comfortable whether it is true or not.

The sure sign though is when people start the “media control” thing and say that the real news is suppressed by search engines and they find the real links to information from TikTok and Rumble. I’m amazed at the number of people who were fully behind banning TikTok a year ago who now think it’s where credible news comes from.

Pssst. The narrative is that Trump was just trying to appease McConnell and this is proof that Mitch was fighting against Trump every step of the way. He has now become the reason that Republicans lost the House, Senate and Presidency during the last 4 years. Blame has to go everywhere but the top.

I know hundreds of Republicans in my ass-backwards area of Georgia.I am a Republican-leaning Libertarian. A few are/were MAGA. None are or were QAnon. Some of them fall prey to the far right bs on the internet - but not many. I do not know anybody who even knows who "Q" is or purports to be. A few women were initially tempted into the child-abuse-ring rumor but logically rejected it later.

Many believe in a form of "Deep state" which has to do with entrenched federal employees. Guess what. It was true after the two-term Bush admin and it was true after the two term Obama administration. QAnon ads layers of falsity on top of a real fact.

So, does belief in a "deep state" (as defined above) mean I accept QANON as partially true

U r fos big time.

If not trusting the government means one is a conspiracy theorist, I guess I'm a conspiracy theorist.

I think it depends on what you mean by "not trusting the government." Do you not trust your representatives to do what they promise or think they'll only perform in self-serving ways even if it hurts the country - not a conspiracy theorist. You think there is some deep state cabal that is out to enslave the population and bring the world under one government, well....

My best friend of nearly 38 years spouts off crazy junk from time to time and I tell him he is insane.lol.he kinda gets pissed with me but I I can’t help it .
