Question re. Ward and the team's final record

We saw the bad defense vs. A&M, Clemson, etc. but, what if, in spite of poor play vs. Missouri, UK, and UT, we somehow held on to win those games. That would mean 10-3 as a final record. Would Ward still be on the hotseat? Would the better record overshadow the bad defense?

Agreed. When your DC makes a comment BEFORE the season that this might be one of the best defenses, and then we get a #120 ranked defense, it shows he has NOTTA clue what he's doing. Then there was the 3-4 experiment, how long did that last? Then there were the games where a team ran the same play at us numerous times and he COULD NOT come up with some way to even slow it down, let alone stop it. He needs to GO and the SOONER THE BETTER.

We did hold on to win against UGA and UF and Vandy. But since we won those aren't part of your what if. You can't say what if for one without the other. Bad defense made several games closer than they should have been and we lost most of those.

The A&M game was a just one example of just how clueless Ward is/was(hopefully)as a DC and the excuse for not firing any of the staff on the defensive side because we might lose some recruits was a waste of air.
Ward just doesn't have the mind or personality that a top notch DC has to have and he was just treading water the entire season. His phone isn't ringing off the hook with offers from other schools.

My prediction for the A&M game:

USC-35
A&M-7

Yeah with the OP's logic you can count UGA and UF as losses under "normal" conditions....so maybe you are talking 8 wins instead of 7.

I'm willing to trust coach Spurrier here and see what happens...

IF we had won all of them- maybe half our staff would land NFL jobs.

Of course playing "IF" is pointless and really silly.
