I got disgusted and turned it off in the... 5th? Inning was it? After we had bases loaded, with NOBODY out, only managed ONE run off a Fn DOUBLE PLAY ball then immediately crapped our pants with two quick runs allowed in their next at bat... And BOY am I glad I cut it off then.
This is by far the worst PERFORMING baseball team I have ever seen us field. Talent wise, we have got LOADS of it. Guys who were drafted right out of HS, or turned down pro contracts last year to return to play for us... But they just don't seem to have any confidence, any fire or any FEELING. They play like they have a trip Omaha all wrapped up and all they have to do til then Is just show up and go through the motions... Basically they play like they don't give a shit and if THEY don't, I am going to stop hanging on every play and letting it get me down when they crap their pants and lose OVER AND OVER AND OVER... This year of Gamecock athletics has been one of the most painful to watch in my 30+ year history of watching them. The only team who even performed up to par was the WOMEN'S basketball team... And let's be honest... Does that even count? No, not really. Even THEY lost in heart breaking fashion in the final four to end their run... It isn't just about the results- FB had a winning record, won a bowl game, BB finished wi their first wining record in a long time... BASEBALL STILL HAS A WINNING RECORD, and is likely to make the playoffs (no guarantee obviously if they keep playing like this...)- it is about performing in relation to expectations. We all had high hopes coming into the FB season- dashed immediately by an asswhoopin from TAMU.. ALl downhill from there. BB had low expectations, built much higher by a great start beating the tar our to clemzun and some good tourney team from the Midwest... Dashed by- what was it?- a 1-6 start to SEC play? PAAAATHETIC! Baseball, well we ALWAYS have high hopes for baseball... Dashed by a LOSING SEC RECORD OVER HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEC SLATE!? It is just getting harder and harder to watch. This is a consistent DECLINE pattern for our baseball program. Two consistently worse showing in the playoffs followed by this near completely collapse that might keep us OUT of the playoffs for the first time... In...? What? 20 years or so maybe? I am generally a very positive up beat person, probably labeled a sunshine pumper by all the flamers around here... But this is too much. They need to get their heads out of their asses, SOMEONE needs to light a fire under them and I just don't think Holbrook can. If Tanner wants a successful program he needs to step out of that office, get his butt in that locker room and do it himself. We have the best baseball coach in America retired to some higher office watching our games on TV while his ASSISTANT/ 3rd base coach runs this elite program into the ground. It is just sad. Maybe we should start asking if Ray took on more than he can chew. It seems to me the best fix now is to out his back in the dugout, and hire an AD with experience running an elite SEC program. Not going to happen, but that is the only way to fix this ailing ATHLETICS PROGRAM. It is not just baseball that needs to be tuned up at this point.
