Remember blowing the horn when you passed the car in front of you

If I recall, that was actually in the drivers handbook; you were (are?) supposed to honk as a signal to pass, just as OP said. I've never actually done it, and certainly wouldn’t consider it these days for reasons mentioned.

I am 72 and I do not remember that being the law, at least in SC. It's the law on certain Canadian provinces. You wouldn't happen to be from New Jersey would you?

Nutty New Jersey laws: Do you honk your horn when passing? You're required to

I do remember my drivers ed teacher (i.e. my football coach) telling us that was technically the law way back when.

But he also agreed with us that it was a stupid law. Horns are for warning others when they are about to hit you or they are used for aggressive gestures. Blowing the horn while passing someone nowadays would definitely be viewed as aggressive and/or antagonistic, and could possibly lead to a negative outcome.

And most have weapons in their vehicles.
That’s a whole different subject. Talked to a person who is over cwp registration in sc. He said you would be amazed at the amount of people that have to take the class 3, 4, and 5 times because they didn’t pass. Idk who knows about the class but let’s just say it’s just like any other class for certification the state does. I equate it to the hunters education class. It’s not that hard. That’s scary that these people are carrying concealed.

Don’t confuse this with me saying we need stricter gun laws. I’m a huge supporter of the 2nd amendment and the definition of “Shall not be infringed”.

How do you fail the CWP test????
I know when I got mine the target part eliminated some. Once you moved past the closest target it became quite frightening to think some of these people owned a gun much less wanted to go out in public with it.

Different ranges? Mine was 35 out of 50 at 25 feet. You can almost do that blind

When I got mine years ago, the instructor (a former SCHP) said that he wasn't necessarily looking at how accurate you were, he was looking at how safely you handled the weapon.

So yeah, based on what that instructor told me, it's kinda scary when someone fails once, much less multiple times.

One would think but at our test we started out at 5 feet and then moved it back. One of the guys who did the most talking didn’t even get 50% on the 25ft range which he of course blamed on his new gun which he wasn’t comfortable with yet. One of the other guys during the prep was flailing around with the gun in his hand so much the instructor took his gun away and only let him hold it again when he was in the chute.

I often think for a lot of people your concealed weapon is less about protecting you from a crime being committed than it is protecting you from the Dirty Harry wannabes who think the gun makes them something special.

My wife is always like honk the horn that person is driving like a nut all over the road, I usually don't honk the horn and speed around them when the opportunity presents itself:)

if someone's head is down at a light and it turns green and they are not moving, (I presume they are looking at their phone) and I will honk the horn to get their focus back and get moving.

if someone is cutting me off, I honk the horn to alert them
