So things are a little wild in the SEC after last night's action:
Arkansas beat Georgia
Ole Miss beat Alabama
Texas A&M beat South Carolina
Auburn beat LSU
That means the top seeds right now, if the SEC Tournament started today are:
1. Florida (20-8)
2. Arkansas (18-10)
3. Ole Miss (17-11)
4. Georgia (16-12)
5. South Carolina (15-13)
6. Auburn (14-14)
7. Vanderbilt (14-14)
If my tiebreakers are correct, the Gamecocks would be playing No. 12 seed Missouri right now. Tigers and Tennessee, the other team vying for the No. 12 seed, are playing each other this weekend.
A lot more will be known after today's games, obviously.
Clinches first round bye with:
SC 2-1 over A&M
Ole Miss 1-2 against Alabama
OR
SC 2-1 against A&M
Arkansas 3-0 over UGA
Best case scenario for South Carolina is Ole Miss loses the last two games against the worst team in the league, Alabama, and they win the last two over A&M. That would give them a top four seed and a bye.
Worst case? They get swept, Auburn sweeps LSU and Kentucky finishes at 15-15 in the SEC with two wins over Vanderbilt and the Gamecocks slide all the way to the eight seed.
If Ole Miss wins one game over its last two, then they'd lock up a top four seed. If Georgia wins one game over Arkansas, they'd lock up a top four as well.
A win at any point this weekend guarantees a top five seed at least. Gamecocks have the tiebreakers over Vanderbilt, Auburn and LSU, all of which could finish with 16 wins. A loss either day and it knocks them out of a first round bye.
