Rising senior tackle Brandon Shell had surgery on his shoulder - was told it was similar to the labrum surgery he had out of high school on his shoulder after he signed with USC. Not sure if it's the same shoulder or not.

The timeframe would figure to have him out of spring practice, although I haven't heard a recovery timeframe. After the surgery in high school, he couldn't lift, etc. for several months.

As someone who has actually torn their labrum and had surgery to repair it, I can tell you that it's easier than you think to mess up your shoulder. I tore mine at the gym simply by doing a bench press. The surgery wasn't that bad (outpatient), but the recovery was tough. Several weeks in a sling and several more weeks of physical therapy. I was back to full use within about 5 or 6 months, but it was a difficult process. I still don't have quite the full range of motion that I used to have, but I don't notice it unless I'm really pushing my limits. I obviously can't speak to how Mr. Shell injured his labrum, but I do think it's a more common injury than what people realize. I also wish him the best of luck with the surgery and a speedy recovery. Go Cocks!

Well that's not going to help with his development. I wonder when it happened and if that is why he choice to stay for another year.
