Shrine Bowl Observations ? Day Four

The afternoon practices for both the S.C. and N.C. team was cut short by about 90 minutes to give the players a break and to allow them to get ready for tonight’s banquet, but here are my quick impressions of the day:

Alshon Jeffrey looked very good this morning and finally got a chance to make some plays down field, which he took advantage of. The S.C. team worked primarily on the running game in the afternoon, so Jeffrey didn’t get many more opportunities.

Stephon Gilmore is, simply, the best athlete on the S.C. team. If I could have one player of the Sandlappers, he’s the guy I’d pick.

Sam Montgomery is moving much better today than he was two days ago, but he has yet to make a big impact.

D.J. Swearinger had another solid day’s work, and I look for him to be one of the leading tacklers for the S.C. squad on Saturday.

Quinton Washington had his best day so far. He was arguably the best overall lineman today.

Jequari Schofield still impresses me quite a bit. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Carolina coaches handle his situation.

Quin Smith has an excellent shot to move up in the rankings next month. I believe he’ll be a mid-high three-star before all is said and done.

Damazio Skelton is another player who has grabbed my attention this week. He is a safety from Myrtle Beach who won’t qualify academically. There is some talk that Clemson plans to place him in junior college.

Justin Trapp is an athlete out of Fairfield Central who has impressed me this week. He’s lining up at quarterback and receiver and is one of the best athletes on the S.C. team. He is a candidate to be drafted out of high school in baseball and will likely take that route.
