South Carolina High School Football Playoffs

South Pointe opened in 2006 and now has 7 titles and 2 runner-ups. They don’t get to recruit.
They have had a good program since day 1 it seems. It also seemed like it took Northwestern a few years to recover once SP was built.

They were sluggish the first two years then kicked it in gear.

Northwestern was minimally effected by SP and barely skipped a beat. RH lost half of its boundaries and pretty much all of their athletes to SP and still hasn’t recovered.

Well, saying some school like Lamar is upper state shows how the geography lies when it comes to realignment. But those winners this week are true upstate locations.

Wonder why that is?
Well, Gaffney, Byrnes, Dorman, Spartanburg, Hillcrest, TL Hanna, Daniel, Chapman, Greer, Abbeville, Greenville, Westside, South Pointe, Union, Clinton, Laurens, Greenwood....great coaching, history/tradition, rabid fans....

I don't think there will ever be a run in the state like Byrnes had with Bobby Bentley coaching the rebels...They were usually ranked in the TOP 5 nationally and would play on national television atleast once per year against other top ranked opponents from across America...

Basically you're indicating the textile towns, or used to be so.

sure...now these town are highly sought after from the folks who want to move down south...

Fort Mill, Travelers Rest, Greer, Pickens, Pendleton, Inman, Duncan, Lyman, Boiling Springs, Woodruff, Campobello, Landrum...great sought after towns....

Then both Greenville and Spartanburg are really busting at the seams...those two cities are starting to lose some of the southern charm...

Congrats to Gaffney…Dutch Fork will be back next year. The win streak ends at 63 games and still no one in the state of South Carolina has ever won 5 straight state championships. Runner up for us this year in a great game!

King can you explain to me why Lancaster was in the Lower State bracket back in the day?
I think the region back then had more of a north/south orientation with Columbia schools in there and maybe Sumter. Only later did we get in a region that took us toward Rock Hill and Gaffney.

You left Gaffney off your list of the most “sought after towns.” Most every criminal on the FBI’s most wanted list is sought after in Gaffney.
