South Carolina-UConn: Matchup Breakdown

I agree with matchup preview for the most part, with one exception....While Dawn Staley is a great coach, not sure how you can consider the coaching matchup a "push"....I know you guys love your coach, and rightfully so, but seriously, if you think Dawn is a "push" with a Hall of Fame coach that has won 900 games, averaged 30 wins a season over 30 years, has been to the Final 4 seven years running, has won 9 National Championships, Coached the USA team to multiple Gold medals....AND....is a 6 time Naismith Coach of the Year, 3 time WBCA National Coach of the Year and 7 time AP Coach of the Year, I don't think you're being realistic! Dawn is a great coach and I have tremendous respect for her as a player and for what she has accomplished thus far as a coach, but is she REALLY on Geno's level yet? Don't you think she needs to get some Final 4 appearances and National Championships under her belt before you put her on Geno's perch? She may get there someday, but she has to earn the "push"....she hasn't....yet. Like him or hate him, Geno is a legendary coach. The best there is in WCBB. How many big games has Dawn coached in?

I'm sure you'll all agree to disagree and bash me, but I think I'm being realistic, here. As I mentioned, I agreed with the other matchup assessments.....coaching? Not so much.....not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, I'm just tryng to keep it real.

Geno is a great coach, no doubt. He has had the benefits of all the best players going there year after year and hopefully Staley can do the same.

Not much to argue with here.

I always thought Geno would have tried the men's side of coaching by now.

I've always wondered about that. The guy seems like a great coach who could do great things on the men's side. I think I would have at least tried to make the jump, but that's just me. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Any UConn people want to weight in?

I think it is a push today. I'm not looking backward to what Geno has done, I'm looking to the present and forward as to what Dawn has done. And as of today, I think the coaching is a push.
