Absolutely disgusting. Anyone associated with this should have a court order preventing them from EVER stepping foot on public school property again.

Yes, South Carolina is known for all the "liberal DA's" throughout the state. You know, it would serve everyone well to educate themselves about the actual issues in a state like South Carolina instead of fake ones.

Odd too given South Carolina is dominated by Republicans at the state government level and those same legislators refuse to help make it tougher on people to illegally carry guns.

“Every day, law enforcement officers in this state repeatedly arrest criminals who illegally carry guns, and the penalty amounts to a slap on the wrist,” Sheriff Lott said.

Sheriffs and police chiefs across the state have, for years, asked the General Assembly to toughen the penalties for criminals carrying guns illegally and they have failed to do it.

Criminals arrested with illegal gun possession in South Carolina- get slaps on the wrist not because of the local DA, but because the SC law is so weak. So it's a revolving door.

If a person is convicted of Strong Arm Robbery, that person may legally possess a firearm under South Carolina law." - Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook in his letter (4 years ago) to the General Assembly

Holbrook explained to state legislators that South Carolina law doesn't prohibit criminals with felony convictions of numerous crimes from having a gun.

He also explained that, in South Carolina, a person’s potential sentence for his first conviction of
unlawful possession of a handgun is exactly the same as the 5th, or 6th, or even 10th conviction of that crime.

In South Carolina, the law allows a person that is convicted of all sorts of drug crimes to still possess a firearm. This has been a recipe for disaster according to Leon Lott and Skip Holbrook.

Three 17-year-olds have been charged with affray and were released to their parents following the fight, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. They have also been banned from any Richland 2 school district property. None of the students attended Richland 2 schools, according to the Sheriff’s Department.



My Take:

If they are students at any public high school in South Carolina, they should be expelled and required to attend their district's alternative school.

Any student involved in a fight or altercation at one school should not be allowed back in regular school or on any school property in the state.

I will be emailing my representative and my state senator today to argue for that change in the law.
