Suggestions on what to do. Heading to Vegas tonight for first time

Whatever you want to do. It is probable there. What do you like to do? Gambling? I like to gamble on the Strip at Paris or The Trop - don't know why just seems more relaxed and I've had more success there too. I like Madalay Bay too, but it is all the way on one end of the Strip. Go to Old Vegas (Fremont St) - great experience overall and their casinos have lower ante tables if you don't want to spend too much gambling per hand.

Hit some shows. There are some good shows there. Pick your choice. All seats are usually pretty good because most venues are smaller.

If you are going to be there a while and you have a car, Hoover Dam is a must - but to really see it all it will take nearly a day. Grand Canyon too - if you want to do that - although I would fork out the cash and take the helo tour of the Grand Canyon as that would be cool, but not cheap. Use you winnings from the tables - LOL.

Nightclubs are very expensive - good to know someone if you are going to do that. Also, the have a very cool Top Golf located at (behind) MGM. If you are into golf and have a few hours, it is a good time. It is Vegas, so their Top Golf has a little "Vegas twist."

BOTTOM LINE - you can have fun in Vegas doing just about anything you like.

This is the most open ended question I can think of. Tell us what you are looking for and someone can tell you how to find it in Vegas. Anything really

Be there almost all week. Like to gamble a little on sports, but this is a relatively dead period for sports.

Definitely going to the casinos and walk the strip. Going to rent a car and hit up Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon for one day. I know I cannot hit up the Grand Canyon in a day, but I also want to see some of it.

Don't know about the shows. Didn't too much care for any for this week. Seems like a dead week. Fixing to hit 115 by the end of the week but in the 80s most of this week. Thankful for that

I hear food is plentiful and rather inexpensive there.

Inexpensive? I was there about 16 years ago. Mandalay Bay and the Four Season were brand new. It was business and food was provided, so I did not pay for any of it, but it was definitely not cheap unless you were dropping a fortune in the casinos. The fine dining restaurants were ... FINE INDEED ... and so was the price. My advice is BMW ... Bring Money Withya.

As for Hoover Dam. Be sure you buy a dam map, listen to your dam guide, stay with your dam group, ask any dam questions you want, take a few dam pictures. It's a lot of dam fun.

In addition to the above, I would also suggest the Valley of Fire State Park about 60 miles north of Las Vegas. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Since I'm going with the wife I'm going to pass on Rods advice.

Fellow gamecocks I appreciate all the tips. I'll be out there all week. I'll let you know how much of this I could do but I always appreciate advice from those that have been!

any ideas appreciated.

Check out the Bellagio lobby and fountains. Also the Wynn, perhaps the world's best hotel. Go to the top of the Stratosphere about 45 minutes before dark, awesome views of LV at night. Fremont St. area is the orig. LV.
It's pretty trashy.

Plenty to see in Flagstaff, Sedona, Jerome. Might want to stop at the Snow Cap in Seligman (still pretty cool, Hwy 66 and all) The Grand Canyon get pretty crowed after 11am so go early. Zion National Park is a little more than 2 hr.s from LV.
If you're into Nascar ride out the the racetrack about 15 minutes n. of LV. You can drive into the infield area for free.

Lastly, with a car, always VALET PARK!

Thanks for the great tips!

Minus 5 Bar in Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay
Bellagio fountain
Visit Freemont street (Old Vegas)
Walk the Strip from MGM Grand to Paris (At night if you want to see true craziness)
Spa at Vdara
Poker room at Monte Carlo (my personal favorite because it's quiet)
Diablo Cantina for Mexican
Too many to name good steak restaurants

It's getting harder to find $10 games on the strip. Cheapest gambling you are going to find at night on the strip is Excalibur, Hooters, and Luxor. Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Paris, and Planet Hollywood will have $5 and $10 tucked away (and packed by guest) but they try to push most of their tables up to $15 by late evening. Aria and some of the more high ends will go as much as $25 for a min table. Freemont has $5 blackjack at Golden Nugget and others. I can't remember if they push those prices up at night or not.

Make sure you plan to do something non-gambling at least one night (nice dinner, show, helicopter ride to Grand Canyon, etc)

As for comps, if you are going to do a decent amount of gambling... stick with one casino 'brand'.
MLife = MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, Aria, Vdara, Bellagio, Mirage
MLife typically has the best comps for shows and food. Getting up to Gold membership has a decent amount of perks. One of my favorite being that it only takes me 3-4 minutes to sign into any MLife hotel. I've had to wait as long as 30-45 minutes to check in one time... A'ight got no time for that.

Total Rewards - Rio, Paris, Planet Hollywood, Harrahs, Caesar's Place, a few more (Cherokee Harrahs works too)
I stick to Mlife more but it feels like Total Rewards gives better cash comps. Friend of mine gambled a lot in Paris and when we went to Cherokee's a few weeks ago... they simply handed him $75 in cash as soon as we walked in. I only get crappy bonus pts for slots with MLIfe.

Any time you sit down at a table or slot/electronic machine... ALWAYS use your card.

Be there on the weekend, it gets jumping. People from all over
Football weekend especially.
I've been in May and I've been during the first weekend for March Madness but nothing beats watching some college and NFL games in a sports book after some bets. March Madness was fun but I have absolutely no clue how to bet on basketball. I ended up copying some friends bets and ended up ~$200+ so there's that. Apparently the thing to do on March Madness mornings because of early games (7-8AM PST) is to have a bear fight.........

Battistas Italian. A couple blocks off the strip behind Ballys. A throwback, affordable AUTHENTIC Italian restaurant. Great atmosphere.
Paris has a rooftop beer garden which has a perfect view of the Bellagio fountain show.
Secret Pizza in Cosmopolitan Hotel.
Top Golf. Driving range meets bowling ally. Near MGM.
And finally the pool at the Flamingo.

FYI, TopGolf is now available in Charlotte

If you go to the Wynn, see if they still have blackjack switch at any tables. If so, play it, odds are in your favor if you play right and good chance to make some easy $$ there.

Everything is great. I did the pawn shop that is on TV. It looks just like it does on TV too. I stood in line for 10-15 minutes.

Pawn or buy anything?? Ya know, the old man there is an Eastern NC Native don't Cha? =;-p

Cirque de Soleil "O" show is great. If you do go to Hoover Dam take the 'VIP' tour if they still have it...you get to go through inspection tunnels deep inside the dam.

You heard wrong on that one. It was 25 to 30 years ago. Vegas is big on top chefs opening expensive restaurants in Vegas. Most of the big casinos have 15 to 20 restaurants and all are expensive.

Just got back from Vegas on Saturday. Must see the Venetian and catch "Human Nature Jukebox" show there. Also liked Frankie Moreno's show at the Golden Nugget. Stayed at the Palms and really liked it. Use Uber to get around.

Since its going to be hot, The Mirage probably has the best pool of any of the big casinos (at least this was the case about 10 years ago)

If Penn & Teller are there, go see their show. They always deliver.

Dig This Vegas is the kind of thing you can't do anywhere else.

Brooklyn Bowl always has great music if that's your thing,

Eat at the Delmonico at the Venetian. Whatever gumbo they have, get it. Steaks will be great too.
