I guess Ray is trying to take the heat off of Holbrook, but to compare his '99 team with the current
team is really reaching. In 1999, the team did not make the post season, but at least won the east. In 1999, the school wasn't THE premier baseball school in the country. In 1999, the school hadn' t won two national championships and played for a third. Ray improved every year as coach, Holbrook was declined every year as coach. So, Holbrook took over a top program, when Tanner did not. The ONLY comparison to both teams is that neither made the post season. And, that's it.

Not buying it... I can't believe Tanner made these comments coming off back to back NC in less than 3 years...

I hope for Tanner, he's right next year or it could get ugly next year...

I noticed though he mentions at least twice that we will be back next year. Reading between the lines I think he is saying that as an ultimatum.

He was asked out right if he supported Holbrook and instead of saying "yes" which he could have said.......not a simple "yes" ringing endorsement in my opinion. I saw it as a sidestep from answering straight out....

Asked if he still fully supported Holbrook, Tanner replied, “I was in that position I felt like a number of times. This year we came up a game or two short, but certainly I feel we will be in a better position next year.”

The sunshine pumpers have got to Tanner. It's over folks. "FEEL" like we are going to be a better position next year? What load of BS. He is trying to protect his friend instead of making prudent business decisions he doesn't want to make.

Haha, yes. The pumpers have gotten to Tanner. Our "best" fans want to fire the winningest football coach we have ever had, the best basketball coach available to our university, and our new baseball coach. Obviously the prudent thing for an AD to do is get rid of all three. Hell, let's get rid of all the coaches from the big 3 and our AD. That will show everyone USC means business. The championships will start rolling in.

AMEN

So, apparently there will be no changes on the coaching staff! Unbelievable! I guess Holbrook is happy with the hitting and pitching. Most big time programs make at least some changes after a season like this.

Stupid comments. What in the hell did you really expect him to say based on needs and recruiting? People just crack me up with the way it should be, but most couldn't hold Rays or Holbrooks jockstrap till it dried. Give the guys a chance or find another mindless hobby! Most aren't very good at this one!!!!!

No one is suggesting to get rid of Spurrier. But since you bring up there comes a time when you must step down. That time will come sooner than later. Bowden was the winningest coach at Florida State and in the end he was going through the motions same with Joe Pa. No coach is greater than the program

By all means if you want all the teams to continue to suck act like everything is fine and don't hold the coaches accountable for anything.

Spurrier is not who he once was. The man is 70 years old. He doesn't have much left in the tank. Retire him, give him a position with the administration if he wants it. But we need to start looking ahead and not hanging on to coaches that don't produce results, and are not having us competing at a high level. If the football team isn't greatly improved this year, this needs to be it for Spurrier as our head football coach.

Hey Im with you. You are only as good or as bad as your record. But if you truly want to be elite, the next hire needs to be another big hire. There is a reason Ohio State is back at the top. There is a reason Alabama is constantly at the top. There is a reason neither one of those programs hired an assistant (like Holbrook) with no head coaching experience to run the show!

Tanner drank the Holbrook koolaid. Not to be a part of the 64-team tournament is a huge slap in the face by Holbrook and his staff.
Who's this Ray Tanner character and what does he know about college baseball? Don't bother me with comments from unqualified sources

Some people question RT's ability to be an AD then when he responds to a question the way nearly any AD would, they bash him for that too.
And anyone that talks about wanting Spurrier to retire is either off their rocker or a wolf is sheep's clothing (or in this case a tiger, bulldog, etc in Gamecock clothing). Short memories...I reckon.

There is not one coach (head) in any program that should have been fired. If you base it on wins and loses then you could argue that but it has to be a complete body of work failure. Holbrook is the only coach that comes close and he should get a bye just because his total failure has been one year. We slipped but I am not sure we wouldn't have slipped those first two years with Holbrook even with Tanner. Those were typical seasons before Tanner went on a tear the last 3 years. We have Holbrook and the rest for another year so I will just sit back and see....
