Rico Powers - Atlanta (Ga.) Hapeville Charter
August 16 update (Wes) - Four-star wide receiver Rico Powers camped with South Carolina this summer and I'm told he impressed offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon to the extent that the Gamecocks have increased their pursuit of him in the last couple of months since then.
Powers, who recently transferred to Hapeville Charter, played in an option-based offense at his previous school, but will play a true wide receiver position at Hapeville (and at the college level) and has been working with a private receivers coach to hone his skillset there. I'm told that McClendon was impressed with his progress in those areas, which has led to the increased pursuit.
Whether or not Carolina has room for a third receiver in the class remains to be seen, but Powers increasingly appears to be a potential option. He's transferred schools a couple of times and some schools have backed off, but he's definitely a talent and the Gamecocks are firmly in it. He's looking at definitely taking official visits to South Carolina and Nebraska and one source close to him believes South Carolina is the favorite, assuming they continue to pursue him.
