The farther the program is being set back, and opposing teams can see it and are thrilled! At this pace, maybe we will be competing for the SEC by 2040. I am not holding out hope that we will hire a proven winner, but unless a move is made soon even that might not matter.

In the SEC, you really can't wait for hope...

You need to act now or become Vandy...

He's not calling the shots. Those other people around the table are calling the shots. They control everyone over there. If it happens, it will be they and not him.

I tend to agree. He's a neophyte. But the statement was bolder than what I would have expected from anyone in the administration.

It wouldn't have mattered who the president is, even if he were a former President of the United States, the BOT runs the University of South Carolina. Whatever you see coming down from Tanner or Caslen will reflect their wishes.

And who appoints the members of the board? Could it come down to politics?

Do you think there is a consensus among the board members about what to do regarding the football coach? My impression is that they are waiting for someone to come to them with a plan.

As I’ve said a million times ... no amount of bitchin and moaning from fans and media get a coach fired . Only thing that gets a coach fired are empty seats and cutting off the money supply . That’s it in a nutshell . Since we pride ourselves on being the self anointed “Best fans” in America” empty seats will never be an issue here . The board doesn’t care about winning or losing football games , it cares about MAKING MONEY !!! In their minds if we generate as much $$ as the Bama’s , LSU , OSU etc etc despite the wins and losses who cares . The only people who are truly upset are the fans and they keep throwing their money away regardless . That’s why no change will happen for a long time .

Consensus? I hardly think so. I'm sure they'll listen to suggestions from Tanner - if he has any - or Caslen. But neither nor both of those will be able to act independently of the BOT. It will be their call and Tanner will be the face of the decision unless he's the one getting the boot. It won't the the chairman of the BOT announcing any of this. But nothing happens if the BOT doesn't want it to happen. I'll put it to you this way. I talked to a former member of the BOT, a guy from Lancaster, while walking out of the stadium after Sparky's last loss to UPC. He told me on the way out of the stadium "not to worry', that "it's over". He knew what the board was going to do, but it was a couple of weeks later before McGee announced it. Remember that, at the time, McGee hadn't been there but a matter of months. The BOT made the call and it came out through the AD.

I’m just spit-ballin’ here but isn’t it possible that Caslen/Tanner/BOT can require Muschamp to make changes and maybe even require him to make certain hires and/or refuse to approve a hire he wants to make. It could be that Muschamp could be made so uncomfortable with being told how certain things must be done that he wants out and negotiates a lower buyout.

If this scenario were to play out, I believe it works in Muschamp’s favor. Muschamp would get to resign and say he “resigned because he was being forced to make staff changes he didn’t agree with” and “ I felt our staff had improved the state of the program from when I took over” yada yada.

He gets to say the above, versus the alternative scenario where he stays for another year and gets fired. After year 5 he doesn’t get to resign and put a spin on it that it was his decision. No, after he drags us through another 3-5 win season in year 5 and gets fired there is no way to spin it as anything but he failed.

I think the opportunity to resign this year and put some sort of spin on it that it was his decision, could be very beneficial for him. It would be extremely beneficial for USC if a negotiated resignation saves the school several millions.

If he refuses to make offensive changes when they are needed, he should be immediately terminated. That is intentionally hurting our program and a fireable offense.

Surely, there is a clause in his buyout contract that would allow a reduction in pay in his buyout if he refuses to comply with the board's issues.

It's not quite that simple to say he is intentionally hurting our program because he doesnt want the administration micromanaging a program he is paid millions to run. It can, however, create an untenable position for him that leads him to negotiate his resignation.

He said he would evaluate at the end of the year... Then went on a rant about how much he could do to improve the school with $18MM.

Yeah, and I agree with him. He could do a lot of good with $18 million. I feel like we're in good hands with him. You don't get to be a General unless you are smart and decisive. Seems he was that way at West Point.

Sounds like that BOT already had a consensus. This BOT sounds split right down the middle.

Oh, and a poster on SECRant (by the name of SCRooster) has posted that Tanner will step aside in December. His information is usually spot on.

Thrilled...we are never a threat dude....lmao

Baloney. There is no advantage to doing that midseason. The proper time is at the end of a season. If you mean waiting additional years, sure that is bad. But now or after Clemson doesn't set SC back at all.

You are right. At this point its just another couple of weeks.

However, reading between the lines in Tanner's statement, Eddie Floyd's statement (Fits News) and Caslen's statement it appears to me that everyone is back next year and the bar is fairly low. That is, all Muschamp has to do is increase the win total next season ... I'd say at least 6 wins is needed ... and all will be forgiven and forgotten.

"unless a move is made soon"

I think 2 weeks qualifies as soon.

I'll have to see how the team plays tomorrow and then against Clemson. If the effort is there and both games are winnable until the 4th quarter there is no chance he is fired. If we fall behind by 3 scores or more in the first half (Clemson has scored 28 points in the 1st quarter several times this year) then I think it is possible a change is made this year. As someone else said, this is Champs audition for another year.

I don't put any stock in what Eddie Floyd, President Caslen and Ray Tanner say until I see the outcome of those games.

I don't think they will fire anyone either. That's the problem.

It used to be "wait til next year" for us to win. Now, it's "wait til next year" to fire one of the worst SEC head coaches of all-time. Pathetic, pitiful, sad.

U cant be serious...how many years have we played football....ill wait
I'm starting to think this account is a grammar disabled botnet that automatically disagrees with every post.
