in the world resides at KKKlempson. Just wow!!

"Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said Rogers now faces charges of grand larceny and malicious injury to property valued at more than $10,000. Wilkins said the higher charges stem from the state's evidence showing the damage done and stolen rock was valued at more than $10,000.

The report said that Rogers was served the charges at the Pickens County Courthouse Wednesday morning and remains free on bond. Wilkins said if he is found guilty on the new charges, Rogers could face a 10-year prison sentence. "

I'd love to see the justification they used to come up with that valuation. I can't be historical value, since it was given as a gift, originally. There are no other Howard's Rocks on the market.

Rock appraisal. I need to get into that profession.

Wasn't the rock illegally taken from Death Valley, CA to begin with? So shouldn't the charge be attempting to steal a stolen rock?

I do believe it's illegal to remove a rock from any national park. If the guy that busted the rock had come up with a story that he was going to return it to the real Death Valley in California, it would have certainly put things in a different light for him. Probably wouldn't have changed anything as far as his charges go, or the penalties, but it would have brought to light the fact that the rock shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Anyone here think the tillmanites care diddly squat about their precious little busted rock was oroginally stolen from a national park?

Actually it depends on where it was taken from at the time which is impossible to prove. Back then it was Death Valley National Monument and the protected area only covered a small part of the valley. The area was expanded to cover the entire valley and named a national park in 1994.

That is so absurd, it's laughable. The kid can't get a fair trial in Pickens County.( He could get the death penalty. lol.) Things like this were once considered college mischief, now it's a major crime.

The only monetary loss was the damage to the case, which was probably less than $500.

It's really sad that they are throwing the book at what is truly a petty crime that should be dealt with through restitution, community service or PTI, but yet, they give players PTI or don't charge them at all for beating women.

How do you determine the useful life of a pet rock? Are they using straight line depreciation? Does it have a useful life of over 40 years, maybe something like 1,000,000 years? What was the original acquisition date? What is the comparable value of similar rocks? Or should it even be valued as a rock? Its original purpose was a door stop wasn't it? What is the value and remaining life on a 50 year old door stop?

That thing is worthless to everyone alive except however many fans Clempson has. And I can guarantee you that a very very small number of them would be willing or could even afford to pay whatever value they have apparently come up with for that rock. Of course we already know that some of their fans would be willing to steal the damn thing.

What a bunch of idiots.
