TCU has not recruited any higher than 27 since 2010. Most classes been in the mid 30s to 50.
However, they should have had their shot at the MNC this season, and not too many would have bet against them.

As the classes stand today, Bama has an average star rating that's only .6 stars better than us.
So, even though we are out recruited in paper, it should not be insurmountable for committed players and coaches.

On a certain Saturday evening not very long ago Alabama brought their merry band of 5 stars into WB and got hammered by the group of 3 stars known as *South Carolina Football* if I remember correctly!

That was a very good night.

Other examples are Missouri, Boise State, Kansas State, Baylor, Arizona State, Wisconsin, etc.

Ok, I'll bite.

When has South Carolina gone 11-1 with or without a top 15 recruiting class during Spurrier's tenure? Patterson and staff would coach circles around our coaching staff. TCU is winning with less than elite talent. From '09 to '13, the Gamecocks were winning with the most talent they've ever had. In other words, I don't have faith in the coaching staff's ability to coach up inferior talent. The defense failed miserably after our elite talent left.

You would have to go back to '84 to find a successful Gamecock team that seriously overachieved. Maybe Holtz's team in 2001 overachieved as well.

I agree with your post, but .6 isn't a small per player difference. Thats a really big difference, if you believe in the accuracy of the ratings.

Yes, we beat Alabama back then and it was a great win for us. But a dose of realism is good as well. What if we played Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, and Oregon next year. How many would we win? I have supported USC for years but I think our present football program has some serious issues.. Please ponder these if you are critical of posters who are not "rah, rah"...

1) Do we have a proven QB returning?
2) Do we have a proven defensive line returning , or are we depending on newcomers to produce?
3) Do we have a star running back on the roster?
4) Do we have a defensive coaching staff that makes effective adjustments ?
5) What are we to be enthusiastic about?

Please answer the above...

Doesn't help that we get juniors that want to leave for undrafted free agent contracts.

HBC is just waiting on Jr. to get a head coaching job somewhere then he's gone. His heart is not into this mess that we are in.

I don't think TCU could take the grind of an SEC schedule and win as many games as they did this year. Could be wrong but just do not believe so.

and they have won 2 SEC titles since then, and 2 national titles.

and our best years in the SEC have come after recruiting 5 star prospects like Lattimore, and Clowney.

A lot of teams in the top 25 recruit very much alike- but the teams that typically win the titles and division are the ones that are able to secure 2-3 of those 5 star elite guys and put them on a team with those other players.

Yeah, throw out these coaches that have taken us to heights we previously did not know! Wow, people need some perspective.
