USC - Got it right with Beamer

Perception like beauty it is in the"eye of the beholder" Yes in my opinion he is the most qualified person for this job. Just like in life fortune 500 companies make corporate hires based on history and what they feel like is the best. Do they make mistakes? Of course they do. People get married and in today's society once they have a little hardship they decide it it time for a divorce. Yes Beamer has all the qulifications for this job. You don't work under coaches like his father, Phillip Fulmer, Kirby Smart and Lincoln Riley and not learn how to manage and coach a d1 football program. Yes in life being somewhere because you want to be there means a lot. Go to work for a company and you are not 100% in they will find a way to replace you. When Bear Bryant was at Alabama he said everyone needs to be in from the janitor to the president and bot. I feel like Beamer truly wants to be at USC and yes the players and being a dream job means a lot. Hire someone who is just in it for themselves and sooner or later you will see failure. I really think Napier was wanting to be in it for himself, not for the school. In five years or sooner he will be in the NFL.

Spot on!

This is bull$&!+. Your obviously one of those good ole boys who lobbied for Shane or your just gullible. I don't get this "dream job" argument. The guy was here from 2007-2010. Let's not pretend the guy was a fixture here for a decade and that this is home for him. Also let's not forget he's about to increase his pay 10-fold and end up with life changing money no matter how this experiment turns out. And to think you would even take a shot at two dudes who have actually built programs that are currently winning is laughable. I'm sure your happy that the pr campaign was successful but were about to find out if years of being an h-backs/tight-ends coach translates into a successful head coach who can build winning programs. Just seems odd we would pass on two guys with ties to the state who are already doing that?

So you've been a member of this forum for 6 whole days and you come on here posting some inane crap about USC that a lot of us are graduates of and fans of. There's no way in hell you know what you are talking about, Grow up and stop whining every time the world doesn't do what you think it should. There will be a lot of bumps in your life.

Your right I normally don't post on message boards but i'd put my fandom and knowledge of "recent" usc athletics on par with you any day. I love the school but that doesn't mean I'll blindly follow leadership making questionable decisions. I get it if Shane is your guy but don't think it's unreasonable to question the logic of paying $13m to fire a coach who couldn't win and hiring someone who has never held the job. Of course I hope Shane is successful I just don't think this situation is set up well for someone who has never rebuilt or even run a program before simply because former players have endorsed him and because he's called it his dream job. Again I'll gladly eat crow but priority #1 on this in my eyes was a proven winner who's actually run and built programs not just someone who's studied hard for the job.

Maybe you should fine another job. I would love to look at your yearly evaluation on job performance. I know you would not want to share that. Anyway yes you are entitled to your opinion, i may not agree with it but yes you are entitled to your opinion.
Maybe you should think before you post, otherwise you sound like an idiot. Find another job? WTF does my job that have to do with the USC coaching hire debacle? SMH

Holy Drivel Bat Man.

Is Beamer as bad of a hire as Will, No? To his credit, Beamer hasn’t failed in a spectacular way, unlike Will.

None the less, Beamer has done nothing impressive in his career. It is just a fact. Does that mean he won’t be a good HC, No it doesn’t.

But the Constant massaging of facts and out right lies are just mind numbing.

Napier is widely respected, he was the best recruiter at the time on the Clemson staff that was full of some pretty good recruiters. Their was not a “fight“ between Dabo and Billy. They did not see eye to eye on offensive philosophy and Dabo wanted to go a different direction. It is what it is, it happens.
Both were young and inexperienced at the time.

Every time Billy moved form one job to the next, it was a promotion. He rose up the ranks and was valued and prized all along the way. He has worked under some top notch guys.

It is funny how Beamer is made out to be the differential peice in recruiting all the talent that came to this team while he was on staff. That is just not true. He was a part of the team, but he was neither the lead recruiter, or this revered figure.

The whole idea that hiring a coach is a crap shoot and you can just flip a quarter is also retarded. People who have demonstrated success more often than not continue to have success. There are no guarantees, but the idea that you can’t use someone’s experince and performance at previous gigs as an indicator of how well they will do is just moronic.

I think Beamer is a convenient hire, he doesn’t have any real failures, but few success. Truly the most successful thing about him is having the right last name. Oh and he will come cheap.

I can almost guarantee you the only reason Napier isn’t coming is b/c of the lack of financial support that was offered. Beamer is going to take several million less than what Napier wanted and he has told the admin that he can hire a great staff on the cheap.
Like I said we have different view points and different opinions. That's fine. I respect your point of view, hopefully you respect mine. I still trust my intuition about Napier. I have worked in the corporate world a long time and I know things when I see them. I do not feel he is the best fit.

Look your language says a lot about you and your character on how to judge and determine qualifications. I am not going to call you names but I would not want you in a leadership role in a company I represented. That would be a choice. Anyone that uses profanity and calls names has serious problems. Anyway have a good day.

As I am about to write this post I know there are some that have different opinions. Well I have mine and if you don't like it, that is fine. I frankly do not care. But honestly my intuition told me that there was
something that was not right about Billy Napier. I do not know what it is, but how Napier handled the end of the game the other night confirmed my intuition. Come on. That right there to me was a red
flag and frankly I never heard Napier say "USC" was his dream job. "Never". I think he wanted the job to maybe help himself to an NFL job. His demeanor told me a lot as well. Finally I do not know what went
on in the locker room at Clemson 10 years ago but he and Dabo Swinney got into a really bad fight. I have my concerns about someone getting into a fight, he should have been man enough to walk away.
The next morning Dabo fired him. I know that was 10 years ago and that is water under the bridge. Beamer was at USC and he recruited the players that won a lot of games. Players know players and
players know coaches. There were too many former players who spoke up for Beamer, supporters and people in the community. Shane has been on coaching staffs from VA Tech, Georgia, USC, Oklahoma.
I know he knows how to run a program and I feel like I know he knows what it takes to win at a high level. Trust me if he didn't you would have heard from his peers either as anonymous sources, or a source.
The coach at Coastal Carolina also has his demons. Look at what he left at Charleston Southern. They had to vacate a lot of wins and the program was put on probation. To his credit Coastal Carolina can play
after watching them beat BYU, the man can coach. But with that in mind I also had concerns about him. These coaches searches are always a gamble. Every year schools hire coaches with head coaching experince and things do not work out. For example Willie Taggart from Oregon to FSU, well we know about that, Florida with Jim McElwain, he was fired, Florida with Ron Zook, The coach at Michigan who got fired and Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh, Clemson hired Tommy Bowden from Tulane, well we know how that turned out. So do not tell me that hiring someone with head coaching experience is a good
situation. IT IS ALWAYS A GAMBLE 50-50. THERE IS NO PERFECT FORMULA for hiring a head coach. It is always a gamble. I think for all the reasons with Beamer I think it was a good choice. Hopefully
it will turn out to be the right one. Look at Sam Pittman at Arkansas, he was the ol coach at UGA and look at what he has done at Arkansas. So in my opinion with everything about Beamer, experience,
coaching at several division 1 schools, his character, the players knowing what kind of coach he is and how he not only cares about them as a person but a football player, yes USC in my opinion got it
right. If you do not agree. That is fine, but frankly this is my opinion and frankly I stand behind Tanner, Caslen and the BOT 100%.
I get what you're saying and no one coach is perfect. BUT, no one will convince me otherwise that if Napier and Chadwell had spotless HC careers, Ray still would have picked the popular player's coach that is Beamer. Ray leads with his heart, not his head.

It’s interesting how many of us have different opinons and we express them in different ways, and you link that as a barometer of success. How virtuous of you.

I have been in the corporate world, owned and sold my own business and currently run a business for a hedge fund. I could say i know successful people when i see them and use my success and my opinion to tell you that you don’t have any idea what you are talking about. Some vague notion that i have a superior ”sense“ of things. I am not doing that.

What i am doing is using facts and asking you to do the same. I am not looking at Beamer through Garnet colored glasses.

The fact is, Ray has hired another coach that nobody else was interested in. The only job in the last few years that he tried to get was ODU and he lost out to the OC from Penn State.

To Beamer‘s credit, he is a leg up on Will, who had failed at UF. But for someone to be excited about Beamer, it has to be about intuition not about his stellar record.

So by all means don’t let me rain on your parade, but i am not going to join you in this faux hype about a new coach that will likely be struggling to break .500 3 years from now.

There will be gnashing of teeth and this insufferable malaise of questions on how it could have been. When in reality we will all know how. B/C we hired a journeyman to do a job that they had no experience at and no one else believed was able either.

I had Chadwell and Napier as choice 1&2, Hugh Freeze #3. Don't see much about Beamer that would distinguish him from any of the other hundreds of position coaches with zero HC experience. With that being said, I can only assume that he must have absolutely killed it in the interview. I'm going to hang my hope that he really impressed with names of coordinators and coaches, that he has lined up to come on board. I'm going to assume that Coach Beamer has a vision to totally revamp our offensive and defensive styles, and rebuild recruiting and development from the ground up.
I'm on board for now, the next few weeks will be very important as we watch his staff come together. We will soon know wether we hired on the cheap, or got a man with a plan.

Once again, how does this have anything whatsoever to do with the coach hiring debacle at USC? Usually, when someone such as yourself does not address the topic in discussion it means they have no argument and cannot refute the assertions made. Such is the case here.

And quite frankly, I nor anyone else on this forum gives a damn what you think about my character or leadership skills. That is totally irrelevant to this discussion.

I don't think any of you guys really understand really what just happened here. Let this sink in: We just paid $13 million for the distinct honor and privilege of hiring Shane Beamer. This is the absolute stupidest business decision I've ever heard of. Ray Tanner walked into a Lamborghini dealership, plopped down $500k and drove off in a used Toyota.

We paid $13 million to get rid of Will Muschamp only to hire a "Sparky Woods." Actually, we didn't even hire a Sparky Woods. Sparky Woods would have at least met the very first requirement that Tanner proclaimed early on. He said he wanted a coach with HC experience. Beamer doesn't even meet his FIRST requirement. Tanner's gotta go. He is just totally incompetent.
Man, this post had me rolling. A used Toyota. This about sums it up perfectly....

Hiring Beamer has turned out to be a great decision by Tanner. Beamer loves Columbia and loves being the head coach of the Gamecocks even more.
Has he made coaching mistakes? Yes. But he sure has made up for them.
I just feel he has learned so much these 4 years being the head coach and this team will start getting even better recruits and and continue to be the team other teams are afraid to play.
He may make 1 or 2 staff changes this off season, but he may not. It is not for any of us to doubt the guy anymore.

Yep. All the crying about not being a head coach before or not being an OC or DC were valid question marks when he was hired. He has proven the naysayers wrong. Doesn't mean he gets a pass forever and no coach is a for sure homerun hire, but what he has done as head coach since he was hired proves he is a legit coach at the SEC level.

Surprisingly reasonable. Did you log into the wrong account?

So "reasonable" that I've been saying it since last year. Of course, howling monkey knows this, since he lives for my every post.

Troll on, pathetic loser. Glad nobody listens to your dumb ass.

Since last year, when you were saying you would agree if the school decided to move on from Beamer?

Lmao

I'm impressed you waded through the layers of your hormones to type a coherent post. And I look forward to a few years from now when you work up the effort for a second one.

Stupid troll.

But I know you must be hurting considering how stupid Beamer has made you and watsontater look.

Thoughts and prayers. lol

That's not funny. THIS is funny. Tater123 looking like a total FOOL while I defended Beamer, as usual. LOL.

Tater123:

"Lmao

Beamer was a mistake. I said that from day one and I'm in year four of being proven right.

You are in year 4 of defending a loser. You even know it. You admitted as much when you started talking about supporting the decision when he's let go.

But you get a season and a half to celebrate being "right" because we haven't gotten around to firing him YET. Then, when we do, you'll just change your handle, and never have to admit you were wrong.

Just like with muschamp."

Lou & Steve were proven winners.
Muschamp was a proven loser.
Shane was a shot in the dark that's emerging as a winner.

Right now, there are probably 20 P-5 teams that wish they had Beamer & 100 + P-5 teams that wish they had Superman.
