Vandy girl kicker wins Player of the week

You are really comparing officers murdering George Floyd, continuing a pattern of police brutality of Blacks, with the kicker at Vanderbilt?
Well, ugh, no, I'm not. I'm repeating the same stupid question you asked me.

No one here is upset but you. The girl can't kick at the DI college level. She started field goal warmups on the 3 yard line. Its okay to acknowledge that.

When did I say any of those things? I just think it's funny this is what you guys get upset about. But that's fine. Everybody needs a hobby.
Perhaps when someone voices an opinion not popular with you it does not mean they are old, upset, and their blood pressure rising.

I’m just failing to see how what she did was an accomplishment. She was given the gig out of utter desperation. It’s not like she competed her way onto the team.

If it was presented as just sort of a novelty bc of the weird Covid season, I’d be fine with that. Kind of like a position player getting to pitch in a game his team is losing 25-0. But having it presented as some seminal moment in women’s history is ludicrous. She got the job bc they literally could not find a warm male body to do it.

And selling it as some watershed moment in college football is absurd. Who among us has ever thought “you know the one thing missing from college football? More girl players.” Nobody. Ever.

I bet Mitch Jeter feels even worse for kicking all those kick offs out of bounds on Saturday night.

He could of been Co Special Teams Player of the week, who knew they were going finally focus on and award a kick off specialist this week?

I maintain that there was a male on the team, and I don't know for sure, that could have made the same kick! I mean, the punter could have made the kick. There have been many teams over the years that have lost a kicker for at least a period of time. There is usually another player at another position that has some kicking skills to fill in until the injured kicker returns or another kicker is found.

I maintain it was nothing more than a gimmick. And it's not Sarah Fuller's fault but I believe it was schemed from word go by Vandy.

It was a horrible kick, but I guess not bad enough to prevent her from winning Co Player of the week or whatever.

But at least it stayed in bounds unlike another kicker on Saturday

If they would just say “hey, 2020’s been a lousy year. Our season is a lost cause. When our kickers went down we just decided to have some fun with it and let a girl kick the ball” that would be fine.

It’s this presenting as a monumental achievement for womankind that’s flat-out silly. She literally accomplished nothing football-wise. It’d be like being a janitor at NASA and always telling people that you work at NASA.

My wife had an interesting evolution of thought on this. She’s a physician and so she’s familiar with existing in a traditionally male dominated field and is very much pro-women doing things generally associated with men.

Her initial reaction was that it was very cool, even though she doesn’t broadly care for the idea of women in football. While she acknowledged that it was just a kicker and not something like QB, she still saw it as a pretty big moment. Then she read an article about it...

She was reading the article and looked up and exclaimed “so she didn’t actually beat out any male kickers; she only got the opportunity out of desperation?!? Yeah, that’s not nearly as cool.” Then she saw the video.

“Oh my W-O-R-D that makes women look so pathetic.” I explained that it was a designed squib kick, but that only made it worse. “So what?!? If you’re going to trot her out there for all of the world to see, at least give her something real to do, not a pity kick.”

Worse than being told that woman can’t do what men can do, she finds it far more degrading when, in the supposed interest of equality, women are given token jobs in a male field or task.

I didn't hear the girl give any interviews and didn't know she actually took it upon herself to give a half time speech. WOW! The little bit I saw of the game I was pulling for the girl and hoped she would get a chance to at least kick an extra point. I didn't see the kick off play and did not realize they didn't let her kick it off, but had her pooch kick it - probably because they were afraid she could not kick it deep enough. Now I regret even feeling good for her and pulling for her. From what the other posters have said she sounds like an entitled little prick.

I would bear more impressed if she buckled it up at safety or linebacker and met our star tailback in the hole opened by the line. Then she would have actually have played. Of course she might have woke upon Sunday sometime. She didn’t prove she could compete, just that they allowed her one moment in the spotlight because of her sex. Oh well, it’s 2020, just another oddity.

I think they had her pooch the ball so no one could return the ball and hit her. I think that is what happened.

Now they have made college football a joke. POW for kicking a football 30 yards? How is this equal treatment? No Vandy male football athlete could make that kick? Total political BS.

That is exactly what I said in another post. The whole shenanigan had gimmick written all over it from word go.

Oh, it was a designed squib kick. My question since I did not watch the game. Would they have called a design squib kick if their regular kicker had been in the game?

Why does this bother so many people? It doesn't affect your lives one way or another.

I mean, I realize most of you are pissed you peaked in high school and haven't done a damn thing since, and along comes this college girl who is more athletic than you are.... so I guess I get it. A lot of insecure dude-bros.

Maybe you can all run to Clay Travis and have a snowflake party together and start making fun of black folks... then you will all feel better.

huh?

I don't think it bothers anyone. I think what most posters are talking about is fair play.

Oh sure, automatically someone must be a misogynist and a racist for calling out the obvious. You have an interesting handle "crooked cop".

You could care less, yet you read the thread and posted in it... and obviously it bothers you. So why does it bother you? A lot of women reject you and this is how you respond? Her getting an award doesn't affect anything in your daily life, yet you are angered in some way.

Man, you are reading something into this whole thing that isn't there. You are like my brother-in-law who has had one course in psychology and all of a sudden he is a shrink.

You are over analyzing the whole situation. The kick Sarah Fuller made could have been performed by any male on the team regardless of the position he played. ANY MALE ON THE TEAM COULD HAVE MADE A BETTER KICK. I maintain that any female that didn't play sports at all could have made the kick with just a couple of days practice but that's neither here nor there.

But what most of us are saying, by NO MEANS DOES IT MERIT BEING NAMED THE CO-SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

A number of months ago, someone posted after the US Womens team won their World Cup and they were demanding equal pay that they couldn’t beat a very good high school boys soccer team. Likely true.

it was fun seeing thevyoung lady get her chance to kick this pass weekend. I watched it with my granddaughte. But, she isn’t some D1 football talent. She is a great female soccer player and athlete. But, reality must set In. She should not have been any player of the week for SEC Football......maybe SEC Futbol. She did lead her team to a SEC Soccer championship.

Any decent female soccer player could have done what she did in the game Including my 14 yr old granddaughter who is a pretty good goalkeeper too. She didn’t kick a game winning FG or something.

SEC player of the week award.....guess that award just doesn’t matter too much.

I am about as liberal as you can get. I get Sarah getting an opportunity with Vanderbilt’s numbers being low. She executed the squib kick without it going out of bounds about as well as it could be done, However, Player of the Week? Don’t quite get that. Maybe, it’s just a part of marking the historic achievement. However, my hope is that this type of gesture will not be necessary once the next female receives an opportunity. She either performs or she doesn’t and we move forward. Nonetheless, the same people that are triggered by the award were probably the ones that are triggered by her getting the opportunity in the first place. Some people are just triggered by anything that is different and upsets the apple cart in any way.

Anyone else find it ironic that there are three threads (two started by the same person) to complain about all the attention she is getting?
