"In January 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing took the unusual step of repeatedly sending U.S. science diplomats to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which had in 2015 become China’s first laboratory to achieve the highest level of international bioresearch safety (known as BSL-4). In January 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing took the unusual step of repeatedly sending U.S. science diplomats to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which had in 2015 become China’s first laboratory to achieve the highest level of international bioresearch safety (known as BSL-4)."

"The cables warned about safety and management weaknesses at the WIV lab and proposed more attention and help. The first cable, which I obtained, also warns that the lab’s work on bat coronaviruses and their potential human transmission represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic."

"...noted the new lab ha[d] a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory."

"Most importantly, the researchers also showed that various SARS-like coronaviruses can interact with ACE2, the human receptor identified for SARS-coronavirus. This finding strongly suggests that SARS-like coronaviruses from bats can be transmitted to humans to cause SARS-like diseases. From a public health perspective, this makes the continued surveillance of SARS-like coronaviruses in bats and study of the animal-human interface critical to future emerging coronavirus outbreak prediction and prevention."

"As many have pointed out, there is no evidence that the virus now plaguing the world was engineered; scientists largely agree it came from animals. But that is not the same as saying it didn’t come from the lab, which spent years testing bat coronaviruses in animals, said Xiao Qiang, a research scientist at the School of Information at the University of California at Berkeley."

"As my colleague David Ignatius noted, the Chinese government’s original story — that the virus emerged from a seafood market in Wuhan — is shaky. Research by Chinese experts published in the Lancet in January showed the first known patient, identified on Dec. 1, had no connection to the market, nor did more than one-third of the cases in the first large cluster. Also, the market didn’t sell bats."

Many Italians in Northern Italy sold their leather goods and textiles companies to China. Italy then allowed 100,000 Chinese from Wuhan/Wenzhou to move to Italy to work in these factories, with direct Wuhan flights. Result: Northern Italy is Europe’s hotspot for Wuhan Coronavirus

In the six days after top Chinese officials secretly determined they likely were facing a pandemic from a new coronavirus, the city of Wuhan at the epicenter of the disease hosted a mass banquet for tens of thousands of people; millions began traveling through for Lunar New Year celebrations.

President Xi Jinping warned the public on the seventh day, Jan. 20. But by that time, more than 3,000 people had been infected during almost a week of public silence, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press and expert estimates based on retrospective infection data.

Six days.

That delay from Jan. 14 to Jan. 20 was neither the first mistake made by Chinese officials at all levels in confronting the outbreak, nor the longest lag, as governments around the world have dragged their feet for weeks and even months in addressing the virus.

But the delay by the first country to face the new coronavirus came at a critical time — the beginning of the outbreak. China’s attempt to walk a line between alerting the public and avoiding panic set the stage for a pandemic that has infected almost 2 million people and taken more than 126,000 lives.

If it was any other country, do you think the other world leaders would come down hard on them???

China is getting a pass on this from the rest of the world leaders...

On its face, its curious that the WP published this after the Media has, for weeks and in unison, said that Trump is trying to scapegoat China for the epidemic and that it was a conspiracy theory that this virus could have come from one of the labs in/near Wuhan. And not just calling out Trump, but anyone else publicly talking about it like Sens Kennedy and Cotton.

This criticism was even coming from Democratic Leadership in both Chambers. Who would have seen this reporting in their respective oversight hearings, the same ones where Cotton and Kennedy heard about it.

Now that the public is starting to blame China, they know the old narrative won't work.... now they are switching to a new narrative. Based largely on reporting about a report that is TWO YEARS OLD. The new narrative, which are they are already rolling out is that Trump knew about it and didn't do enough to protect the American people.

Using as the base a report that the same people that called him Xenophobic for stopping foreign nationals travelling from China back in January had also seen. The same people that in late February and early March were encouraging people to go to parades and festivals. They all had the same intelligence, but that one data point didn't directly link the current virus to the labs. Just raises the suspicion and probability that is where it came from. (something I personally believe). And doesn't add any indication of the future severity of this particular virus.

Just another narrative being rolled out by the Democratic party and the collusionary media that gives them an exclusive mouthpiece.
