We were spoiled with Tanner who was one of the best coaches in

Ray Tanner is only 56. Just sayin. If he is done with his mutlimillion dollar career signing miscellanous papers sent by who know who than maybe he can come back and fix this team.

Even after two years of steady declinein the baseball team, Tanner gave Holbrook an extension. He see's something in the man that we don't. I dont know what the hell it is but he see's something.

Coach Toman is the man. He was the main recruiter for Tanner and we let him walk. Coach Holbrook has done find but that chemistry has not found its way to our team since Holrook has been at the helm. If it doesn't work Tanner should look to Toman!!

In Ray's 3rd year we finished 35-23 15-15......had gone to one regional the second year....he wasn't kicking the door down up to that point. I am not saying I am 100% sure about Holbrook, but I am 100% sure that it is too early to tell. Let the season play out and then look back.

I'm not giving up on Holbrook but for the 1,000th time he took over an elite program coming off three straight national title series. Tanner took over a lot worse program under Raines in '97 and had us the #1 seed in the NCAA tournament by his 4th season, a run away from Omaha in his 5th season and the national title runner up by his 6th season. He built a national caliber program from the ground up unlike what Holbrook had to do so I don't see the point in comparing the two resumes because there's really no comparison at all right now. We'll see what happens this year and I understand Omaha is not realistic every year or even every couple years but facts are facts-Chad has taken us less and less farther in the playoffs each season he's been manager. Hopefully this season that will change. Think he's an excellent recruiter and assistant though.

Players still have to adjust to a new coach and the coach has to adjust to the job itself if he's never been a head coach. Holbrook is not going to be Ray Tanner and he has to have a learning curve. I think this team with the talent we have should have a good year. The only problem is we have to compare it to three amazing years in Tanners last days. I would hope this year we make it to Omaha and we should. If not then maybe it's time to take a closer look at where the program is headed. I just hate to see people panic when the SEC is loaded with talent. We don't have the only good team in the league.

You were the one comparing Holbrook to Tanner bringing up Tanner's third season results. That was why I responded in the first place.

I love Ray but an AD is judged by fires and hires-not keeping current coaches happy. That's how we'll find out what kind of AD he really is. His job has been pretty easy so far. My comments are not directed towards any coaches or sports-just a general comment concerning Tanner.

So were we SPOILED as you say when Ray was coaching his first years here and we were "average" OR were we spoiled when Ray was here a few years and built his team? It is more that fans become "realist" as they say when they love bashing our coaches and programs. NOT just in baseball, but all our programs. They "think" they r the only ones who want championships etc.! GIVE IT A FREAKING BREAK!

I hope our former baseball coach proves to be a great AD

It would be a shame to end up with an average baseball coach and an average AD. Just because someone excelled as a coach, does not mean he has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to lead a multimillion dollar business.

Go Gamecocks!

SC 95

I am sorry sclawman77...I meant he is not going to be the Ray Tanner of today....he has to have a learning curve....my bad.

The only thing I know for a fact is that no one on this staff has a clue about how to solve hitting problems!!!

We had 24 hits in the last two games against a supposedly "lights out" pitching staff and people on here are still whining about how we "can't hit?" What a bunch of amateur complainers. Leave the real complaining to the expert complainers. i'll let you know when it's okay to complain about something and what. ....................newbs............

I'll stand by my previous comment about needing some help with hitting. We hit well Sunday, and I'm sure it will happen again, just not often enough for me. Our players do not protect the strike zone like they should when facing a two strike count. We've got good players consistently popping up on very hitable pitches, while others can't get the ball off the dirt! Need help! Lack of good pitching or fielding won't keep this team from Omaha, but a lack of consistent hitting certainly will!
