Chris Clark first brought you Sterling Lucas' name on Monday morning and we've continued to hear more buzz surrounding him as a possible replacement for Mike Peterson in the days since then.

While it's not a done deal at this point, we believe things are progressing towards a contract here and it certainly appears that Lucas could be considered the favorite for the job.

Lucas, who is from Orangeburg and played at Orangeburg-Wilkinson, signed with NC State and played four seasons in Raleigh.

He then became a graduate assistant at NC State before moving onto the NFL in a variety of on and off field roles with the Baltimore Ravens. This past season was Sterling's first with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an assistant defensive line coach.

We are not yet sure exactly how the defensive staff would be structured if Lucas is indeed the hire, but again he played linebacker and has also served as an assistant defensive line coach for both the Ravens and Jags in the NFL.

Stay tuned...
